| Abstract: | This paper reports the situation on the application of composite beams for highway bridges and the research work in this field in the United States and points out some problems which merit our attention. It advances a finite element method for the analysis of composite beams. The element stiffness matrix for the prestressed bars has also been suggested. The computational results accord with the experimental data. |
