| 摘 要： | 希腊首都雅典（Athens）位于巴尔干半岛南端，三面环山，一面傍海，西南距爱琴海法利龙湾8公里。雅典是希腊最大的城市，面积90万公顷，人口350万。雅典对欧洲及世界文明曾产生过重大影响，自古有“西方文明的摇篮”之美誉。雅典是希腊的铁路和航空枢纽。火车可直达中欧和西欧。雅典市内交通发达，是世界上拥有地铁较早的城市之一，地铁于1925年通车，长257公里。

| Abstract: | In September 1997, Athens was awarded the 2004 Summer Olympics, providing a new and pressing stimulus to address public transport in a metropolitan area with a population around 3.5 million. The metro and other public transport modes, notably a new tram system, were also to benefit greatly from Athens hosting the Olympic Games. |
