Vague Language in Medical English and Its Communicative Functions

Vague language, a kind of indispensable expression in communication, is widly used in medical English. Based on the analysis of expressional forms of vague language, the paper probes into and summarizes the following communicative functions as courtesy and respect, exactness and credibility of language, modesty and self-protection. It aims at making medical personal understand vage language further and use it flexibly in practice, thereby achieve successful communication.
