Tunneling in Squeezing Ground with Yielding Supports

Tunneling in squeezing ground often involves difficult problems,especially in the case of a deep tunnel with high overburden and weak rock conditions.Following an outline of the fundamental mechanisms of squeezing as well as its identification and ground deformation characteristics,a yielding principle for tunneling under squeezing rock conditions is introduced and some key points for design and installation of the yielding supports are presented.
