Development of Quanzhou Stone - Building Technology in Song - Yuan Dynasties

From the 11th to the 14th century, Stone architecture in Quanzhou developed into a highly- sophisticated industry. The stone bridge and multi -layered pagodas in Quanzhou are examples of some of the most developed stone architecture of their time. The origins of the technology used to construct such architecture can be traced beck to southern and central Fujian before the beginning of the Song Dynasty. This paper will examine these origins and the distribution of technology to explain the evolution of form and style within Stone architecture in Quanzhou from the Song to the Yuan Dynasty.
