By comparing the status and development of marine medium speed diesel engines at home and abroad,the defi- ciency,market requirement,price change and competition in this field in China are discussed.According to the require- ment of China's Mid-to-Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Shipbuilding Industry,some thought and suggestions are proposed for constructing marine medium speed diesel engine bases and enhancing greatly the research,development and manufacturing capability.
