Development Prospects of BIM Technology in Municipal Engineering Design

Human’s desire for the "Better City, Better life" gives birth to the demands of further improving the municipal design capability. Like CAD, the building information modeling (BIM) will inevitably lead to a new round of information revolution in the engineering design field. This paper sets forth the concept of BIM, introduces the development status of the relevant software and BIM at home and abroad, and deeply analyzes the main driving force and various resistance of popularization and application of BIM technology in the municipal design industry of China. The municipal design moving towards the "BIM Era" is the inevitable trend of the industry development, is the updating of tools and means, and is especially the renewal of design method and thinking mode.
