Abstract:The Commission on Adhesive Bonding for Automotive Body (abbreviated as ABAS) of the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan carried out a cooperative research project on the application of structural adhesive technology to the automotive body for five years from 1989. In this review, we introduce the outline of activities of this project for the last two years, the main subjects of which are the aging reliability estimation test of the adhesive joint, the adhesive joint with adherends of different metal (steel/aluminum alloy) and impact tests of the adhesive joint with regard to collision safety.
