Integrated and Sustainable Planning for Multimodal Terminals

As a complicated and difficult subject, multimodal terminal planning involves professional con-tents of many disciplines and needs to coordinate various complex relations. Based on the practice of Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transportation Hub, this paper discusses the planning principle, contents, methods, and facility operation and management of multimodal terminals from the concept of combined travel. The paper indicates that integration and sustainability should be emphasized throughout the process of multimodal terminal planning and construction. Integration requires the coordination between multimod-al terminals and the planning, construction and operation of urban development, transportation network, fa-cility and information. Sustainability emphasizes compliance with the market rules, energy-saving and en-vironmental protection, maximum benefit and harmonious development.
