The Surface Modeling Method of the Complex Surface in CAD/CAM for Automobile Covering Panel Dies

Analyzing the whole process of CAD/CAM for automobile covering panel dies indicates that surface modeling is the essential base of the process, and its precision will directly affect the NC machining quality of the dies. This paper describes some concepts and algorithms related to surface modeling. Analysis emphases are put on the characteristics of the typical surfaces, such as shoulder-overlapping surface, draft surface, fillet surface, and blending surface, and their modeling methods are proposed accordingly.
