Study on Calculation Methods of Stopping Distance of Truck Escape Ramp

The truck escape ramp is one of the most hequently used mechanisms and the most effective application for stopping runaway trucks in continuous long and steep downgrade particularly.Calculating of stopping distance is critical in truck escape ramp design- ing.Three calculating methods for computing stopping distance is introduced,including method baaed on the theory of kinematics,meth- od based on the theory of momentum,and data fitness method based on vehicle tests.The principle and calculation procedure of each method are introduced.The advantages and disadvantages of the methods are also summarized.The discussion of stopping distance is a useful reference for length design of truck escape ramps.
