Abstract:The legacy 802.11 WLAN channel access mechanism didn't support QoS,which limited the application of some real time traffic in WLAN.The new 802.11e protocol distinguished different traffic to supported QoS.This paper introduced and compared 802.11 DCF mechanism and 802.11e EDCA mechanism.The throughput and delay of different traffic in both those channel access mechanism were simulated by OPNET.The results showed that the 802.11e EDCA function could effectively provide QoS differentiated service.
