Application and state of the art of immersed tube tunnels

Development and application of immersed tube tunnels in China and abroad are reviewed.River-crossing tunnels built in different ways and the comparison between tunnels and bridges for river crossing are described.Key techniques for immersed tube tunnels such as foundation treatment,floating,immersing and water proofing of tube sections etc.are summarized,with several river-crossing tunnels built by immersing technique introduced.In the end,by analyzing the prospect of immersed tube tunnels,the paper concludes that with the development and application of underground space,immersed tube tunnels should be favored more and more because of their particular advantages.
