Study and practice on integral abutment bridge

The expansion devices, which used to be adopted in traditional bridges, is one of the important factors influencing the comfort and the cost of the bridge. In middle (or small) bridges, it is possible that the newly developed integral abutment bridge (or semi integral abutment bridge) can solve the worldwide problem. Firstly, the research achievements on jointless bridge in the world are summed up briedefly in the paper. Secondly, the design, study and test of the jointless abutment bridges of China, Changsha Chennan Road are introduced pivotal. At last, some matters needing attention for the design and the practice for further research are provided.
