Practices of Strengthening Soft Ground by Pine Wood Piles in Major Box Culverts

The application of strengthening slush soft ground by pine wood piles in a major blow - off box culvert project was introduced in this paper. The principles of scheme design for hartling soft ground were discussed from the site conditions and the adaptability of pine wood piles. The special mechanical properties revealed by experiments were expounded. The working procedures and the effect evaluation of handling soft ground by pine wood piles were provided. Practices show that strengthening soft ground by pine wood piles has many special advantages, such as cheaper cost, shorter period, and compatibility of local conditions, fewer settlement, and higher sus- tained strength.
