Bike Sharing System in Lyon

This paper presents an overview of the bike sharing system in Velo＇v, the Greater Lyon Metro Area, including service terminals, racks, bikes, bike rental and return, rental pricing, information-based features, costs and revenues, etc. Through an analysis of the system＇s approach to determining the location and size of a rental station, the paper then discusses, according to survey data, the performances of the system in terms of rental characteristics, number of rentals, citizen＇s travel mode shifting, and renters＇ satisfaction for all areas. The paper concludes with remarks on guidelines to promote the Lyon system, in the hope to make clear that a bike sharing system is only a part of the entire bike traffic services, and that to meet the needs of all bike trips is the only right way towards a sustainable development.
