Abstract: | The windshield wipers keep the windshield of a vehicle clear from rain, water, snow etc. so that the driver has an unobstructed view of the road. As an important part of the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), the intelligent wiper has been the focus of research in the field of intelligent driving. In this paper, the two commonly used raindrop detection methods based on rainfall sensors and vision sensors are introduced respectively for automobile intelligent wiper systems. The working principles and research status of the traditional raindrop detection methods by using rain sensors are reviewed, and the main problems of various types of rain sensors are discussed. Considering the emerging intelligent wiper based on vision sensors, the paper analyzes the image feature extraction for raindrop detection and the development of the related target detection methods. The vision-based smart wiper can share the vision sensor and the associated hardware subsystems with other components in the ADAS to reduce the cost. However, the problems such as accuracy, real-time detection and adaptability remain unsolved. |
