Abstract:A new structure of automatic engine room monitoring and control system is presented in this paper. By using the highly developing information technologies, the old automatic engine room is not only updated with new network technologies, module based controller and windows graphical user interface which could be maintained more easily, but also is a good place for the students of mariner's college and other engineers to take facility training. The reconstructed engine room has achieved the advanced level of the latest control and monitoring system on board with lots of useful functions such as engine system faults analysis, hardware diagnostics and simulation etc. The computer network environment provides more training positions for trainees, the two training modes-reality mode and simulation mode allow the teachers and the students to select their needed learning style, and the connection with internet and the dynamic HTML pages allow the marine engineers to monitor and diagnose the engine room with internet browser from remote positions. The presented structure has large potential extension abilities accompanying with low exploitive and training cost. Based on the training experiences and the powerful software developing tools, the design of these kinds of facilities will be customized, flexible and easy to extend in the future.
