Abstract:The construction of full form coal ships with extremely shallow draft is one of the hey technique equipment projects in the 8th national five-year economical development plan.The 20000 DWT coal ship is one economical type of the ships mentioned above for the Qin huangdao-Shanghai route.The investigation on such extremely shallow draft full ship form is rarely seen both at home and adroad. On the basis of successful development of the 35000 DWT shallow draft coal ship of full form, the authors developed further a new ship form with B/T =4. 0 hav ing very good powering performance. The investigation included comparative resistance and propulsion tests with 3 different fore-bodyand 4 different aft-body lines and 3 wake survey tests at the propeller disk.The lines proposed is adopted by the owner and the shipyard. Now the ship is under construction. This investigation is also valuable for reference for the design of other shal low draft coal ships.
