This paper reports the findings of a study within the European Union Northern Peri phery Programme targeting attitude to safety
onboard fishing vessels. The study was designed to improve safety, to save lives and to reduce the number and severity of
accidents onboard fishing vessels. Using psychological research methods a questionnaire was developed for assessing safety
attitudes on board fishing vessels. An analysis of the collected data allowed for the identification of the underlying attitudes
to safety. An intervention programme to improve these attitudes was developed based on the analysis of the answers provided
by survey participants. Face to face discussions were used to change the attitudes encountered. The results were measured
in order to realize in which way the attitudes have changed after the discussions. Through this work a steady reduction in
the numbers of incidents, fatalities and injuries amongst fishermen is hoped to be achieved. 相似文献

The environment onboard a ship presents a typical example of a severe environment, displaying extreme conditions of temperature
and relative humidity, especially in the engine room. Datasheets, the international labour organization, and standards do
not provide clear information about the suitable ambience of the engine room, its design conditions, and the role of marine
engineers in preventing work-related risk. In this study, air temperature and relative humidity were monitored at several
locations onboard a merchant ship. These real monitored data were then compared with the ISO design indications to obtain
an effective work risk analysis. From these indoor temperature and relative humidity data, the corresponding parameters of
thermal comfort in the engine control room and the heat stress and sweating index of a worker in the engine room were determined.
As a function of these indices, the maximum time that a worker can stay in the engine room and the time for which he must
rest in the control room were also calculated in the present study. Some design corrections are also proposed herein to improve

Strategies of fuel consumption onboard ships are of one of the crucial issues in marine shipping industry. Many of the relevant authorities maritime domain gave great interesting to that issue, either through research that discussed the impact of marine fuel consumption on the environment and economy of ships or through practical experiments’ that are made by marine engine manufacturers. Over the years, many solutions have been put forward to overcome this problem while maintaining the amount of goods transported globally at the same transfer rate and ship speed. The present paper sheds light on many of the methods used currently to reach this purpose. It is explained that applying a certain fuel-saving strategy will rely on some of the factors, especially the type of ship.
