This paper proposes an improved virtual reference model for semi-active suspension to coordinate the vehicle ride comfort and handling stability. The reference model combines the virtues of sky-hook with ground-hook control logic, and the hybrid coefficient is tuned according to the longitudinal and lateral acceleration so as to improve the vehicle stability especially in high-speed condition. Suspension state observer based on unscented Kalman filter is designed. A sliding mode controller (SMC) is developed to track the states of the reference model. The stability of the SMC strategy is proven by means of Lyapunov function taking into account the nonlinear damper characteristics and sprung mass variation of the vehicle. Finally, the performance of the controller is demonstrated under three typical working conditions: the random road excitation, speed bump road and sharp acceleration and braking. The simulation results indicated that, compared with the traditional passive suspension, the proposed control algorithm can offer a better coordination between vehicle ride comfort and handling stability. This approach provides a viable alternative to costlier active suspension control systems for commercial vehicles. 相似文献

Researchers have proposed various active suspension concepts to optimize the tradeoff between ride and handling in passenger vehicles. A few investigators suggested inclusion of the passenger jerk, the derivative of the passenger acceleration, as a measure of ride quality in the performance index. Minimization of a performance index then optimizes both the acceleration and jerk as well as other outputs representing handling quality and design constraints. This approach is called jerk optimal control.
This paper compares two different vehicle models of increasing complexity (the one and two DOF quarter car) using jerk optimal control. Different aspects of suspension performance are investigated, including the structure of the system transfer functions, the structure of the force control laws, and the tradeoffs between the various root mean square (rms) outputs defining system ride and handling performance. Tables compare the numerical results of the two models, allowing predictions of actual vehicle performance.
The results of the two models show the same basic trend for the tradeoff between ride and handling quality: at a constant level of rms passenger acceleration the rms passenger jerk can be reduced significantly, but only at a cost of increased rms tire deflections. In physical terms, a softer ride results in degraded handling performance. For a chosen level of ride improvement, the more realistic two DOF quarter car model predicts more severe degradation of handling. The latter nevertheless predicts a substantial increase in vehicle ride quality is possible through a 55% reduction in jerk. It is expected that actual suspensions could also produce significant increases in ride quality through jerk reduction. Jerk optimal suspensions could find use both in higher end passenger vehicles and in transports for vibration sensitive cargo. 相似文献

Summary Various control techniques, especially LQG optimal control, have been applied to the design of active and semi-active vehicle suspensions over the past several decades. However passive suspensions remain dominant in the automotive marketplace because they are simple, reliable, and inexpensive. The force generated by a passive suspension at a given wheel can depend only on the relative displacement and velocity at that wheel, and the suspension parameters for the left and right wheels are usually required to be equal. Therefore, a passive vehicle suspension can be viewed as a decentralized feedback controller with constraints to guarantee suspension symmetry. In this paper, we cast the optimization of passive vehicle suspensions as structure-constrained LQG/H2 optimal control problems. Correlated road random excitations are taken as the disturbance inputs; ride comfort, road handling, suspension travel, and vehicle-body attitude are included in the cost outputs. We derive a set of necessary conditions for optimality and then develop a gradient-based method to efficiently solve the structure-constrained H2 optimization problem. An eight-DOF four-wheel-vehicle model is studied as an example to illustrate application of the procedure, which is useful for design of both passive suspensions and active suspensions with controller-structure constraints. 相似文献

In this paper, a roll and pitch independently tuned hydraulically interconnected passive suspension is presented. Due to decoupling of vibration modes and the improved lateral and longitudinal stability, the stiffness of individual suspension spring can be reduced for improving ride comfort and road grip. A generalised 14 degree-of-freedom nonlinear vehicle model with anti-roll bars is established to investigate the vehicle ride and handling dynamic responses. The nonlinear fluidic model of the hydraulically interconnected suspension is developed and integrated with the full vehicle model to investigate the anti-roll and anti-pitch characteristics. Time domain analysis of the vehicle model with the proposed suspension is conducted under different road excitations and steering/braking manoeuvres. The dynamic responses are compared with conventional suspensions to demonstrate the potential of enhanced ride and handling performance. The results illustrate the model-decoupling property of the hydraulically interconnected system. The anti-roll and anti-pitch performance could be tuned independently by the interconnected systems. With the improved anti-roll and anti-pitch characteristics, the bounce stiffness and ride damping can be optimised for better ride comfort and tyre grip. 相似文献

SUMMARY The computer modelling of vehicle ride and handling has been widely reported, but often only one or other of these functions is considered. This is especially true in the design of active suspension controllers, where the effects that improvements in the performance of one aspect have on the other are often not presented. This paper initially describes a combined ride and handling model for a large executive saloon fitted with a slow-active suspension. Separately derived ride and roll control strategies are combined and the effects on both ride and handling considered for straight running and various handling man?uvres on rough roads. The results are compared to the original passively suspended vehicle and the effect of running each strategy separately. 相似文献

The main role of the suspension system is to achieve ride comfort by reducing vibrations generated by the road roughness. The active damper is getting much attention due to its reduced cost and ability to enhance ride comfort especially when the road ahead is measurable by an environment sensor. In this study a preview active suspension control system was developed in order to improve ride comfort when the vehicle is passing over a speed bump. The control system consists of a feedback controller based on the skyhook logic and a feedforward controller for canceling out the road disturbance. The performance limit for the active suspension control system was computed via trajectory optimization to provide a measure against which to compare and validate the performance of the developed controller. The simulation results indicated that the controller of this study could enhance ride comfort significantly over the active suspension control system employing only the skyhook feedback control logic. Also the developed controller, by displaying similar control pattern as the trajectory optimization during significant time portions, proved that its control policy is legitimate. 相似文献

Electro-hydraulic dampers can provide variable damping force that is modulated by varying the command current; furthermore, they offer advantages such as lower power, rapid response, lower cost, and simple hardware. However, accurate characterisation of non-linear f–v properties in pre-yield and force saturation in post-yield is still required. Meanwhile, traditional linear or quarter vehicle models contain various non-linearities. The development of a multi-body dynamics model is very complex, and therefore, SIMPACK was used with suitable improvements for model development and numerical simulations. A semi-active suspension was built based on a belief–desire–intention (BDI)-agent model framework. Vehicle handling dynamics were analysed, and a co-simulation analysis was conducted in SIMPACK and MATLAB to evaluate the BDI-agent controller. The design effectively improved ride comfort, handling stability, and driving safety. A rapid control prototype was built based on dSPACE to conduct a real vehicle test. The test and simulation results were consistent, which verified the simulation. 相似文献

This study proposed a self-organising fuzzy controller (SOFC) for controlling an active suspension system to evaluate its control performance. During the control process, the SOFC continually updated the learning strategy in the form of fuzzy rules. The fuzzy rule table of this SOFC could be initially set to zero. This not only overcame the difficulty in finding appropriate membership functions and control rules for designing a fuzzy controller, but also solved the database problem where the fuzzy rules of a fuzzy controller, once determined, remained fixed and could not suitably regulate them in real time to optimise the dynamic response of the system required to gain the desired control performance. To demonstrate the applicability of the proposed SOFC for active suspension systems, a quarter-car hydraulic-servo suspension system was designed and constructed to evaluate the feasibility of active suspension control. Additionally, to conform to real-time application requirements in the vehicular industry, the SOFC was implemented with a digital signal processor to control the hydraulic-servo suspension system so that the control performance could be determined. The SOFC has shown a better control performance in suppressing the vibration amplitude of the vehicle body for enhancing the structural safety of the vehicle and increasing the life of the suspension system. It also effectively suppressed the amplitude of the vehicle body acceleration and reduced the tire deflection for improving the ride and the handling quality of a vehicle better than a passive control, as verified in experimental results. 相似文献

Comprehensive performance of the vehicle, including ride qualities and road-holding, is essentially of great value in practice. Many up-to-date semi-active control algorithms improve vehicle dynamics performance effectively. However, it is hard to improve comprehensive performance for the conflict between ride qualities and road-holding around the second-order resonance. Hence, a new control algorithm is proposed to achieve a good trade-off between ride qualities and road-holding. In this paper, the properties of the invariant points are analysed, which gives an insight into the performance conflicting around the second-order resonance. Based on it, a new control algorithm is proposed. The algorithm employs a novel frequency selector to balance suspension ride and handling performance by adopting a medium damping around the second-order resonance. The results of this study show that the proposed control algorithm could improve the performance of ride qualities and suspension working space up to 18.3% and 8.2%, respectively, with little loss of road-holding compared to the passive suspension. Consequently, the comprehensive performance can be improved by 6.6%. Hence, the proposed algorithm is of great potential to be implemented in practice. 相似文献

In practice most active vehicle suspension work can be traced to two sources, Lotus' modal control and Karnopp's skyhook damper. A model is developed which allows comparison of different active suspension control algorithms. The Lotus modal control algorithm is reviewed, and compared with Karnopp's skyhook damper. It is shown that a tight inner closed loop allows the Lotus algorithm to achieve the inertial damping described by Kamopp for a single comer or quarter car. It is suggested that to achieve simultaneously high inertial damping and good disturbance rejection an inner force loop is desirable. A vehicle control scheme is presented which combines the Lotus modal decomposition with Karnopp's skyhook damper, allowing nearly optimal ride and simultaneously permitting modification of vehicle handling properties. 相似文献
