Road accidents are the main leading cause of death, and more than half of people killed in road accidents are motorcyclists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. In developing countries, the share of motorcycles is very high in the traffic stream, which results in an increased number of accidents. Nonetheless, a high share of motorcycles and risky riding behavior of motorcyclists raise notable threats to other road users as well as themselves. Segregating motorcycles from the main traffic stream by providing an Exclusive MotorCycle Lane (EMCL) is reported as one of the strategies to improve motorcyclist's safety and overall road safety. Although EMCLs are successfully running in some Asian countries like Malaysia, Taiwan, and Indonesia, and have reported reducing motorcycle accidents, existing literature related to such lanes is limited and lacks combined contemplation of various design factors. Therefore, a systematic review of studies related to EMCL was carried out in the present paper using the PRISMA approach. The review was majorly divided into the following three categories viz., geometric design elements of EMCL, motorcyclist's flow characteristics on EMCL, and traffic control measures for EMCL to highlight the research lacunas in this field. The present study aims to cast light on the need for specific geometric design standards for EMCL and to assess the safety impact of segregating motorcyclists from other mixed traffic. The review highlights that the design standards for EMCL should be based on the motorcycle's characteristics, as it varies from other vehicle categories in terms of riding behavior and the physical properties of the motorcycle.  相似文献

An Inner Spherical CVT (ISCVT) transfers engine power by utilizing the traction force of the lubricant fluid film on the contact point between concave and convex spherical rolling bodies. Since the concave and the convex contact surfaces of the ISCVT are exactly spherical parts, they have a large circular (not elliptic) contact area, and the ISCVT mechanism has a larger torque capacity, less spin loss, and better stability than other traction drive mechanisms. The IVT (Infinitely Variable Transmission) performances also can easily be embodied in the ISCVT. In this work, we developed a prototype of the ISCVT for a motorcycle with a 125cc single cylinder engine having a maximum torque of 13.73 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The design parameters were determined, and the transmission performances were evaluated by optimal design procedure. The transmission efficiency, the life time, the maximum severe stresses on each part of the ISCVT, and the work needed for varying speed ratio were theoretically investigated, and the efficiency performances were experimentally measured. The manufactured prototype was installed in an actual motorcycle, which was fixed on the test-bench equipped with a dynamometer. The parasitic loss of the prototype and the cross-sectional road load performance were tested. The power efficiency of the simulated prototype was between 87∼92%, and the life span was more than 50,000 hours. The tested overall power efficiency was around 70∼92% under frequent driving conditions, which is an impressive performance in a motorcycle transmission despite the small difference from the simulation.  相似文献

In many European towns, the demand for fast and efficient mobility is frequently satisfied by means of two-wheeled vehicles. The improvement of comfort of two-wheeled vehicles used by tired and busy workers can increase safety in ground transport. Nowadays, multibody codes make it possible to predict the ride comfort of two-wheeled vehicles by means of time-domain or frequency-domain simulations. Comfort indices can be developed by post-processing the results of numerical simulations. This task is difficult, because the indices should depend on vehicle characteristics and should be independent of road quality and vehicle speed. Poor quality roads may generate nonlinear effects. Speed influences the trim of the vehicle and the wheelbase filtering, which takes place because the same road unevenness excites the front and rear wheel with a time delay which depends on the vehicle's speed.

In this paper, the comfort of two-wheeled vehicles is studied by means of a frequency-domain approach. The wheelbase filtering is averaged considering typical missions of the vehicle. The missions are journeys with a forward speed that assumes different values according to a probability density function. Indices of comfort are calculated taking into account the human sensitivity. The examples show that the proposed comfort indices depend on suspensions' characteristics and, hence, are useful design tools. Finally, some time-domain calculations are carried out to give emphasis to nonlinear effects and to show the limits of the frequency-domain analysis.  相似文献

Increasing the stability of a motorcycle requires an understanding of the optimal conditions of the tyre. The inflation pressure is one of the main parameters that directly affects the tyre properties, which in turn influences motorcycle stability and safety. This paper focuses on the effect of the inflation pressure of the tested tyres on motorcycle weave stability. Experimental data are collected from tests carried out in straight running at constant speed. The data analysis is based on stochastic subspace identification methods. Simulations are performed using an advanced motorcycle multi-body code with parameters measured from the tested vehicle. Finally, the comparison between simulations and experimental tests is discussed. The research results show an agreement between experimental tests and simulations where weave stability increases with inflation pressure for the specified range of tyre pressure.  相似文献

The effectiveness of ABS for the motorcycle has been evaluated by comparison with deal braking. However, it is almost impossible for the typical rider to perform ideal braking in an emergency. We conducted braking in a turn test by skilled and less-skilled riders, for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of ABS for the typical rider and obtaining data for a method of evaluating motorcycle ABS performance.
