Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) has been widely used in the provision of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) services. Current meter level system availability can fulfill the road level applications, such as route guide, fleet management and traffic control. However, meter level of system performance is not sufficient for the advanced safety applications. These lane level safety applications requires centimeter/decimeter positioning accuracy, with high integrity, continuity and availability include lane control, collision avoidance and intelligent speed assistance, etc. Detecting lane level irregular driving behavior is the basic requirement for these safety related ITS applications. The two major issues involved in the lane level irregular driving identification are accessing to high accuracy positioning and vehicle dynamic parameters and extraction of erratic driving behaviour from this and other related information. This paper proposes an integrated solution for the lane level irregular driving detection. Access to high accuracy positioning is enabled by GNSS and Inertial Navigation System (INS) integration using filtering with precise vehicle motion models and lane information. The detection of different types of irregular driving behaviour is based on the application of a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS). The evaluation of the designed integrated systems in the field test shows that 0.5 m accuracy positioning source is required for lane level irregular driving detection algorithm and the designed system can detect irregular driving styles.  相似文献

Travel time information influences driver behaviour and can contribute to reducing congestion and improving network efficiency. Consequently many road authorities disseminate travel time information on road side signs, web sites and radio traffic broadcasts. Operational systems commonly rely on speed data obtained from inductive loop detectors and estimate travel times using simple algorithms that are known to provide poor predictions particularly on either side of the peak period. This paper presents a new macroscopic model for predicting freeway travel times which overcomes the limitations of operational ‘instantaneous’ speed models by drawing on queuing theory to model the processing of vehicles in sections or cells of the freeway. The model draws on real-time speed, flow and occupancy data and is formulated to accommodate varying geometric conditions, the relative distribution of vehicles along the freeway, variations in speed limits, the impact of ramp flows and fixed or transient bottlenecks. Field validation of the new algorithm was undertaken using data from two operational freeways in Melbourne, Australia. Consistent with the results of simulation testing, the validation confirmed that the recursive model provided a substantial improvement in travel time predictions when compared to the model currently used to provide real-time travel time information to motorists in Melbourne.  相似文献

There has been an increasing role played by Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications in recent decades. In particular, centimeter/decimetre positioning accuracy is required for some safety related applications, such as lane control, collision avoidance, and intelligent speed assistance. Lane-level Anomalous driving detection underpins these safety-related ITS applications. The two major issues associated with such detection are (1) accessing high accuracy vehicle positioning and dynamic parameters; and (2) extraction of irregular driving patterns from such information. This paper introduces a new integrated framework for detecting lane-level anomalous driving, by combining Global Positioning Systems (GPS), BeiDou, and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) with advanced algorithms. Specifically, we use Unscented Particle Filter (UPF) to perform data fusion with different positioning sources. The detection of different types of Anomalous driving is achieved based on the application of a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) with a newly introduced velocity-based indicator. The framework proposed in this paper yield significantly improved accuracy in terms of positioning and Anomalous driving detection compared to state-of-the-art, while offering an economically viable solution for performing these tasks.  相似文献

This study presents a multilane model for analyzing the dynamic traffic properties of a highway segment under a lane‐closure operation that often incurs complex interactions between mandatory lane‐changing vehicles and traffic at unblocked lanes. The proposed traffic flow formulations employ the hyperbolic model used in the non‐Newtonian fluid dynamics, and assume the lane‐changing intensity between neighboring lanes as a function of their difference in density. The results of extensive simulation experiments indicate that the proposed model is capable of realistically replicating the impacts of lane‐changing maneuvers from the blocked lanes on the overall traffic conditions, including the interrelations between the approaching flow density, the resulting congestion level, and the exiting flow rate from the lane‐closure zone. Our extensive experimental analyses also confirm that traffic conditions will deteriorate dramatically and evolve to the state of traffic jam if the density has exceeded its critical level that varies with the type of lane‐closure operations. This study also provides a convenient way for computing such a critical density under various lane‐closure conditions, and offers a theoretical basis for understanding the formation as well as dissipation of traffic jam.  相似文献

This paper presents an analysis of motorway circulation under congested traffic conditions, with the aim of arriving at a measurement of the reliability of the motorway transport system. The author suggests a model of the speed process on a motorway lane under conditions of congestion, which was tested experimentally employing a great number of data collected on two motorways, varying considerably in terms of environmental and traffic conditions. It is shown that the relationships between the parameters of this process and the traffic density define in sufficiently complete fashion the behaviour of the motorway transport system under conditions of congestion. Using this speed process model, a simulation procedure was developed which permits calculation of the reliability of a traffic stream. Finally a method was determined for calculating the reliability in real time, which can be usefully employed in motorway traffic control.  相似文献

This paper presents an agent-based approach to modelling individual driver behaviour under the influence of real-time traffic information. The driver behaviour models developed in this study are based on a behavioural survey of drivers which was conducted on a congested commuting corridor in Brisbane, Australia. Commuters’ responses to travel information were analysed and a number of discrete choice models were developed to determine the factors influencing drivers’ behaviour and their propensity to change route and adjust travel patterns. Based on the results obtained from the behavioural survey, the agent behaviour parameters which define driver characteristics, knowledge and preferences were identified and their values determined. A case study implementing a simple agent-based route choice decision model within a microscopic traffic simulation tool is also presented. Driver-vehicle units (DVUs) were modelled as autonomous software components that can each be assigned a set of goals to achieve and a database of knowledge comprising certain beliefs, intentions and preferences concerning the driving task. Each DVU provided route choice decision-making capabilities, based on perception of its environment, that were similar to the described intentions of the driver it represented. The case study clearly demonstrated the feasibility of the approach and the potential to develop more complex driver behavioural dynamics based on the belief–desire–intention agent architecture.  相似文献

Traffic operations for new road layouts are often simulated using microscopic traffic simulation packages. These traffic simulation packages usually simulate traffic on freeways by a combination of a car-following model and a lane change model. The car-following models have gained attention of researchers and are well calibrated versus data. The proposed lane change models are often representations of assumed reasonable behavior, not necessarily corresponding to reality. The current simulation packages apply solely one specific type of model for car-following or lane changing for all vehicles during the simulation. This paper investigates the decision process of lane changing maneuvers for a variety of drivers based on a two-stage test-drive. Participants are asked to take a drive on a freeway in the Netherlands in a camera-equipped vehicle. Afterwards, the drivers are asked to comment on their choices related to lane and speed choice, while watching the video. This paper reveals that different drivers have completely different strategies to choose lanes, and the choices to change lane are related to their speed choice. Four distinct strategies are empirically found. These strategies differ not only in parameter values, as is currently being modeled in most simulation packages, but also in their reasoning. Most remarkably, all drivers perceive their strategy as an obvious behavior and expect all other drivers to drive in a similar way. In addition to the interviews of the participants in the test-drive, 11 people who did not take part in the experiment were interviewed and questioned on lane change decisions. Moreover, the findings of this study have been presented to various groups of audience with different backgrounds (about 150 people). Their comments and feedback on the derived driving strategies have added some value to this study. The findings in this paper form a starting point for developing a novel lane change model which considers four different driving strategies among the drivers on freeway. This is a significant contribution in the area of driving behavior modeling, since the existing microscopic simulators consider only one type of lane change models for all drivers during the simulation. This could lead to significant changes in the way lane changes on freeways are modeled.  相似文献

An increasing number of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications require high accurate vehicle positioning, e.g., positioning at the lane-level. This requirement motives the development of modeling the road network at the lane-level. In this paper we propose a novel lane-level road network model. It can be considered an improvement to existing models in its capability of representing the road and intersection details at the lane-level in a uniform and precise way. As a result, the model can guarantee the global continuity for arbitrary map route, which better approximates the real vehicle trajectory. In addition, the map construction algorithms are also developed. Following the proposed methods, the lane parameters can be extracted efficiently under flexible precision requirement, and intersections with varying appearances can be precisely modeled with limited extra data. Experiments were performed to verify the proposed model in representing the lane-level geometrical and topological details of an urban area of Milan. The results also demonstrate the effectiveness of the map construction methods.  相似文献

This paper shows that the behavior of driver models, either individually or entangled in stochastic traffic simulation, is affected by the accuracy of empirical vehicle trajectories. To this aim, a “traffic-informed” methodology is proposed to restore physical and platoon integrity of trajectories in a finite time–space domain, and it is applied to one NGSIM I80 dataset. However, as the actual trajectories are unknown, it is not possible to verify directly whether the reconstructed trajectories are really “nearer” to the actual unknowns than the original measurements. Therefore, a simulation-based validation framework is proposed, that is also able to verify indirectly the efficacy of the reconstruction methodology. The framework exploits the main feature of NGSIM-like data that is the concurrent view of individual driving behaviors and emerging macroscopic traffic patterns. It allows showing that, at the scale of individual models, the accuracy of trajectories affects the distribution and the correlation structure of lane-changing model parameters (i.e. drivers heterogeneity), while it has very little impact on car-following calibration. At the scale of traffic simulation, when models interact in trace-driven simulation of the I80 scenario (multi-lane heterogeneous traffic), their ability to reproduce the observed macroscopic congested patterns is sensibly higher when model parameters from reconstructed trajectories are applied. These results are mainly due to lane changing, and are also the sought indirect validation of the proposed data reconstruction methodology.  相似文献

This paper presents a simulation model to evaluate the quality of traffic flow. The evaluation is based on counts of the number of potential speed changes on a stretch of road and the estimated number of times a vehicle is limited in changing lanes. In order to describe the behaviour of the traffic flow process, two models were developed. One model describes vehicle arrival patterns on a road cross section; the other model, vehicle speeds. The stochastic process of speed is described as an autoregression process, whereas vehicle arrivals are presented as a Markovian process. Simulation results indicate an increase in traffic stream friction with an increase in vehicle-speed standard deviation and a reduction in average speed. The dependence of vehicle arrivals in adjacent lanes seems to increase the amount of friction in each lane. The simulation model developed enables a comparison of the quality of traffic flow at different sites, as well as a before-and-after study of any particular site.  相似文献

This paper presents a probabilistic delay model for signalized intersections with right‐turn channelization lanes considering the possibility of blockage. Right‐turn channelization is used to improve the capacity and to reduce delay at busy intersections with a lot of right‐turns. However, under heavy traffic conditions the through vehicles will likely block the channelization entrance that accrues delay to right‐turn vehicles. If the right‐turn channelization gets blocked frequently, its advantage in reducing the intersection delay is neglected and as a result the channelization lane becomes inefficient and redundant. The Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) neglects the blockage effect, which may be a reason for low efficiency during peak hours. More importantly, using HCM or other standard traffic control methods without considering the blockage effects would lead to underestimation of the delay. To overcome this issue, the authors proposed delay models by taking into account both deterministic and random aspects of vehicles arrival patterns at signalized intersections. The proposed delay model was validated through VISSIM, a microscopic simulation model. The results showed that the proposed model is very precise and accurately estimates the delay. In addition, it was found that the length of short‐lane section and proportion of right‐turn and through traffic significantly influence the approach delay. For operational purposes, the authors provided a step‐by‐step delay calculation process and presented approach delay estimates for different sets of traffic volumes, signal settings, and short‐lane section lengths. The delay estimates would be useful in evaluating adequacy of the current lengths, identifying the options of extending the short‐lane section length, or changing signal timing to reduce the likelihood of blockage. From an operations standpoint the most important function of a traffic surveillance system is determining reliably whether the facility is free flowing or congested. The second most important function is responding rapidly when the facility becomes congested. These functions are complicated by the fact that conventional vehicle detectors are only capable of monitoring discrete points along the roadway while incidents may occur at any location on the facility. The point detectors are typically placed at least one-third of a mile apart and conditions between the detectors must be inferred from the local measurements. This paper presents a new approach for traffic surveillance that addresses these issues. It uses existing dual loop detector stations to match vehicle measurements between stations and monitor the entire roadway. Rather than expending a considerable effort to detect congested conditions, the research employs a relatively simple strategy to look for free flow traffic. Whenever a unique vehicle passes the downstream station, the algorithm looks to see if a similar vehicle passed the upstream station within a time window that is bounded by feasible travel times. The approach provides vehicle reidentification and travel time measurement on freeways during free flow and through the onset of congestion. If desired, other algorithms can be used with the same detectors to provide similar measurements during congested conditions. The work should prove beneficial for traffic management and traveler information applications, while promising to be deployable in the short term.  相似文献

This work conducts a comprehensive investigation of traffic behavior and characteristics during freeway ramp merging under congested traffic conditions. On the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway, traffic congestion frequently occurs at merging bottleneck sections, especially during heavy traffic demand. The Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway public corporation, generally applies different empirical strategies to increase the flow rate and decrease the accident rate at the merging sections. However, these strategies do not rely either on any behavioral characteristics of the merging traffic or on the geometric design of the merging segments. There have been only a few research publications concerned with traffic behavior and characteristics in these situations. Therefore, a three‐year study is undertaken to investigate traffic behavior and characteristics during the merging process under congested situations. Extensive traffic data capturing a wide range of traffic and geometric information were collected using detectors, videotaping, and surveys at eight interchanges in Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway. Maximum discharged flow rate from the head of the queue at merging sections in conjunction with traffic and geometric characteristics were analyzed. In addition, lane changing maneuver with respect to the freeway and ramp traffic behaviors were examined. It is believed that this study provides a thorough understanding of the freeway ramp merging dynamics. In addition, it forms a comprehensive database for the development and implementation of congestion management techniques at merging sections utilizing Intelligent Transportation System.  相似文献

This paper presents the methodology and results of estimation of an integrated driving behavior model that attempts to integrate various driving decisions. The model explains lane changing and acceleration decisions jointly and so, captures inter-dependencies between these behaviors and represents drivers’ planning capabilities. It introduces new models that capture drivers’ choice of a target gap that they intend to use in order to change lanes, and acceleration models that capture drivers’ behavior to facilitate the completion of a desired lane change using the target gap.The parameters of all components of the model are estimated simultaneously with the maximum likelihood method and using detailed vehicle trajectory data collected in a freeway section in Arlington, Virginia. The estimation results are presented and discussed in detail.  相似文献

A high fidelity cell based traffic simulation model (CELLSIM) has been developed for simulation of high volume of traffic at the regional level. Straightforward algorithms and efficient use of computational resources make the model suitable for real time traffic simulation. The model formulation uses concepts of cellular automata (CA) and car-following (CF) models, but is more detailed than CA models and has realistic acceleration and deceleration models for vehicles. A simple dual-regime constant acceleration model has been used that requires minimal calculation compared to detailed acceleration models used in CF models. CELLSIM is simpler than most CF models; a simplified car-following logic has been developed using preferred time headway. Like CA models, integer values are used to make the model run faster. Space is discretized in small intervals and a new concept of percent space occupancy (SOC) is used to measure traffic congestion. CELLSIM performs well in congested and non-congested traffic conditions. It has been validated comprehensively at the macroscopic and microscopic levels using two sets of field data. Comparison of field data and CELLSIM for trajectories, average speed, density and volume show very close agreement. Statistical comparison of macroscopic parameters with other CF models indicates that CELLSIM performs as good as detailed CF models. Stability analyses conducted using mild and severe disturbances indicate that CELLSIM performs well under both conditions.  相似文献

Rapid motor vehicle crash detection and characterization is possible through the use of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and sensors are an integral part of any ITS system. The major focus of this paper is on developing optimal placement of accident detecting omnidirectional sensors to maximize incident detection capabilities and provide ample opportunities for data fusion and crash characterization. Both omnidirectional sensors (placed in suitable infrastructure locations) and mobile sensors are part of our analysis. The surrogates used are acoustic sensors (omnidirectional) and Advanced Automated Crash Notification (AACN) sensors (mobile). This data fusion rich placement is achieved through a hybrid optimization model comprising of an explicit–implicit coverage model followed by an evaluation and local search optimization using simulation. The compound explicit–implicit model delivers good initial solutions and improves the detection and data fusion capabilities compared to the explicit model alone. The results of the studies conducted quantify the use of a data fusion capable environment in crash detection scenarios, and the simulation tool developed helps a decision maker evaluate sensor placement strategy.  相似文献

The role of the driver in the longitudinal car following control task will change from operator to supervisor with most of manual control replaced by automation as adaptive cruise control (ACC) technologies become commonplace. The extent to which manual control can be replaced by ACC will be determined by many factors. An important issue is the compatibility between ACC performance and the driver’s expectations. This paper describes the results of a simulation study of the performance of ACC relative to driver expectation. Driver’s expectation is quantitatively defined as the expected deceleration rate for several time-to-collision (TTC) levels, and an absolute minimum TTC that drivers tried to avoid in all cases. A two-level ACC algorithm was used to simulate the performance of an ACC equipped vehicle in various scenarios, and the result was compared to the driver’s expectations. The investigation has focused on scenarios which ACC is able to manage technically, but where driver expectations might be breached.By systematically changing variables such as the parameters of the ACC algorithms, traffic scenarios and time-headway settings, a large number of situations have been tested. The results have revealed that whilst appropriate ACC settings can be found which will meet the driver’s expectations, the ACC settings that are most capable in a range of traffic conditions are not necessarily the most user-friendly. A discussion on the implications of the findings is also presented.  相似文献

Real data show that reserving a lane for carpools on congested freeways induces a smoothing effect that is characterized by significantly higher bottleneck discharge flows (capacities) in adjacent lanes. The effect is reproducible across days and freeway sites: it was observed, without exception, in all cases tested. Predicted by an earlier theory, the effect arises because disruptive vehicle lane changing diminishes in the presence of a carpool lane. We therefore conjecture that smoothing can also be induced by other means that would reduce lane changing. The benefits can be large. Queueing analysis shows that the smoothing effect greatly reduces the times spent by people and vehicles in queues. For example, by ignoring the smoothing effect at one of the sites we analyzed one would predict that its carpool lane increased both the people-hours and the vehicle-hours traveled by well over 300%. In reality, the carpool lane reduced both measures due to smoothing. The effect is so significant that even a severely underused carpool lane can in some instances increase a freeway bottleneck’s total discharge flow. This happens for the site we analyzed when carpool demand is as low as 1200 vph.  相似文献

This paper presents results from a research case study that examined the distribution of travel time of origin–destination (OD) pairs on a transportation network under incident conditions. Using a transportation simulation dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) model, incident on a transportation network is executed under normal conditions, incident conditions without traveler information availability, and incident conditions assuming that users had perfect knowledge of the incident conditions and could select paths to avoid the incident location. The results suggest that incidents have a different impact on different OD pairs. The results confirm that an effective traveler information system has the potential to ease the impacts of incident conditions network wide. Yet it is also important to note that the use of information may detriment some OD pairs while benefiting other OD pairs. The methodology demonstrated in this paper provides insights into the usefulness of embedding a fully calibrated DTA model into the analysis tools of a traffic management and information center.  相似文献

This paper addresses the lane changing problem of autonomous vehicles when there is no road infrastructure support. The autonomous vehicle should drive from the current lane to the adjacent lane in the absence of a reference path to guide the vehicle to the new lane. We suggest an algorithm that incorporates a virtual road curvature with bicycle model for lane change guidance. As the name suggests, the virtual road curvature does not physically exist. It is a user assigned radius of a curved path which connects the current lane to the adjacent lane. Since the lateral sensor readings during lane changing maneuver are erroneous, the steering angle along with the virtual curvature is fed into a bicycle model to estimate the lateral position during the transition to the next lane. Details of the algorithm and the virtual road curvature determination are presented in the paper. In contrast to other lane changing methods, controller switching is not required and the same controller is for both lane keeping and lane changing. The algorithm is verified experimentally and the results are comparable with lane changing with physical transition lane.  相似文献
