A Report on the State-of-Affairs on “Application of Multibody Computer Codes to Vehicle System Dynamics”

This report gives a preview to a state-of-the-art paper and a special session which are devoted to the problem of the applicability of multibody computer codes to vehicle system dynamics. These activities were initiated at the 11th IAVSD Symposium 1989 in Kingston, CAN, followed by a workshop in Herbertov, CSR, and to be reported at the 12th IAVSD Symposium in Lyon, 1991. The concluding documentation will be a special issue of the VSD journal. The status of this report is what has been achieved up to May 1991.

在Q492型发动机上，试验研究了H201型化油器怠速配剂和怠速调节螺钉结构等对发动机双怠速（怠速和高怠速）时排放的影响。试验结果表明，通过优选化油器怠速配剂和改进怠速调节螺钉结构等，可使发动机双怠速的排放污染物含量大幅度降低，其中，CO含量低于0．5％，HC含量低于500×10-6。     

Using µ Feedforward for Vehicle Stability Enhancement

A differential braking control strategy using yaw rate feedback, coupled with µ feedforward is introduced for a vehicle cornering on different µ roads. A nonlinear 4-wheel car model is developed. A desired yaw rate is calculated from the reference model based on the driver steering input. It is shown that knowledge of µ offers significant improvement of the vehicle desired trajectory over that of a yaw rate controller alone. Uncertainties and time delay in estimating µ are shown to still yield a system that is superior to using no µ information at all.     

Dynamic Stability of Vehicle Systems via Poincaré Maps

Computer simulations of a driven vehicle are performed to assess and quantify the automobile stability. The analytical methodology is based on PoincarS maps and Floquet theory, which are commonly used to investigate the stability of periodic systems. The approach accommodates the study of the complex dynamics of vehicle locomotion under various configurations of the system. The proposed method does not require any knowledge regarding the inner structure of the vehicle model. Kinematic data is simply collected at the specific instants to conduct the analysis. It is found that this method has the potential for real time warning and control of vehicle instabilities.

SUMMARY

The influence of vehicle handling on the possible avoidance of accident situations is discussed. lit is shown that accident reconstruction at present does not provide the necessary information to relate the cause of accidents to the lack of road worthiness of vehicles. It follows that the vehicle behavior in proximity of its performance limit must be determined in order to infer its accident avoidance potential.

The paper presents a review of the state-of-the-art of vehicle modeling, simulation of vehicle maneuvers and full scale testing. The application of the direct method of the stability theory is suggested as a possible means of obtaining performance limit envelopes which are necessary for establishing standards of the performance of vehicles.     

Robust Scalable Vehicle Control via Non-Dimensional Vehicle Dynamics

A temporal and spatial re-parameterization of the linear vehicle Bicycle Model is presented utilizing non-dimensional ratios of vehicle parameters called p-groups. Investigation of the p-groups using compiled data from 44 published sets of Vehicle Dynamics reveals a normal distribution about a line through p-space. The normal distribution suggests numerical-values for an 'average' vehicle and maximum perturbations about the average. A state-feedback controller is designed utilizing the p-space line and the expected p-perturbations to robustly stabilize all vehicles encompassed by the normal distribution of vehicle parameters. Experimental verification is obtained using a scaled vehicle.
