Semi-active suspensions are those in which otherwise passively generated damper forces are modulated using feedback control and small amounts of control effort. Recently it was discovered that two-stage, ON-OFF, semi-active control would chatter between the ON and OFF states in a manner similar to bang-bang, active control systems. This chatter is dependent upon the switching algorithm. This paper describes the dynamics of this chatter and suggests alternative control policies for its cure.  相似文献

The chatter of motorcycles appears during braking and consists of a vibration of the rear and front unsprung masses at a frequency in the range of 17-22 Hz depending on the motorcycle. This vibration could be very strong and acceleration of the unsprung masses can reach 5-10 g. The chatter is an auto-excited vibration and this fact explains why it appears suddenly when the mechanism of auto-excitation is generated. This paper presents the chatter phenomenon both from an experimental and a numerical point of view. First, the chatter is defined on the basis of some experimental data from racing motorcycles and from the comments of some racing teams technicians. Then, chatter is analysed in different motion conditions and for different braking styles by means of linear and non-linear simulations of the motorcycle dynamics. A physical interpretation of the phenomenon is also proposed.  相似文献

This paper uses range versus range-rate diagrams to illustrate concepts concerning the objectives of headway control, linear trajectories in the range versus range-rate space, and the influences of acceleration/deceleration limits on headway control systems. Relationships illustrated in range versus range-rate diagrams are used in evaluating first, second, and higher order systems for automatically controlling headway. SUMMARY

This paper reviews the present state of knowledge of human control of road vehicles. Lateral and longitudinal control of motorcycles and automobiles are discussed, whenever information is available. Although knowledge has increased greatly in the last decade, the major part of this concerns lateral control and most is of an ad hoc nature. Adequate mathematical models for longitudinal motion of the vehicle are yet to be developed. Their development is a necessary step in the attainment of a complete understanding of longitudinal control.  相似文献

SUMMARY

This paper describes new control methods for the active suspension. For improving ride comfort further, preview control rule is proposed. For improving stability further, roll stiffness distribution control rule is examined by the test vehicle. Simulations and vehicle driving tests are conducted to confirm the effect of these new control methods. The results of simulations and vehicle driving tests show in our research phase that preview control can achieve a substantial improvement in ride comfort and application of roll stiffness distribution control provides a large improvement in stability  相似文献

SUMMARY

This paper reviews key developments in applications of advanced control methods to automotive systems. Such applications appear in many aspects of vehicle controls. We will examine representative application areas, which include engines, suspension systems, traction systems, steering systems and those for automated highway systems (AHS). Each area is examined from the viewpoint of modeling and control algorithm development. Useful control theories for automotive application are briefly reviewed for better understanding of the applicability of these theories.  相似文献

SUMMARY

This paper is concerned with the braking performance and the handling behavior of the tractor-semitrailer truck under optimal braking. Optimal control theory is used in order to deal with the problem and a combination of the steepest descent method and the Davidon Fletcher Powell method is used to solve it numerically. Results for some chosen braking maneuvers are obtained for a nonlinear truck model which has 14 degrees of freedom. These results show that, for the chosen maneuvers an idealized anti-skid braking is close to being optimal in the sense defined in this paper. Implementation of an idealized anti-skid braking on the tractor-semitrailer truck, however, may be not desirable.  相似文献

SUMMARY

Controllable dampers using electrorheological (ER) fluids have attracted considerable interest in recent years. They are proposed for use in semi-active suspensions for ground vehicles. The main advantages of ER fluid dampers are their fast response, ease of control, simple construction and low power requirements. This paper describes the development and testing of a high-voltage supply unit for modulating the damping force of an ER fluid damper. Experimental results on the vibration isolation characteristics of an ER fluid damper with different control strategies, obtained using a quarter-car model test rig, are also presented.  相似文献

This paper provides a broad review of the developments that have taken place within the past thirty years in the field now known as Advanced Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS). This long time horizon was chosen to ensure that significant findings from earlier generations of work are not overlooked today. Following a history of the international development of AVCS, several methods of classifying AVCS are introduced. The main body of the paper reviews the relevant literature in lateral, longitudinal and integrated control of road vehicles and summarizes the most significant findings from this work.  相似文献

SUMMARY

This paper illustrates the use of nonlinear control theory for designing electro-hydraulic active suspensions. A nonlinear, “sliding” control law is developed and compared with the linear control of a quarter-car active suspension system acting under the effects of coulomb friction. A comparison will also be made with a passive quarter-car suspension system. Simulation and experimental results show that nonlinear control performs better than PID control and improves the ride quality compared to a passive suspension.  相似文献

Due to increased traffic congestion and travel times, research in Advanced Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS) has focused on automated lateral and headway control. Automated vehicles are seen as a way to increase freeway capacity and vehicle speeds while reducing accidents due to human error. Recent research in automated lateral control has focused on vehicle control during low-g maneuvers. To increase safety, automated lateral controllers will need to recognize and react to emergency situations.

This paper investigates the effects of vehicle and tire model order on the response of automated vehicles to an emergency step lane change using a controller based on linear vehicle and tire models. From these studies it is concluded that control strategies based solely on linear vehicle and tire models are inadequate for emergency vehicle maneuvers.

A strategy is then proposed to automatically control vehicles through emergency maneuvers. Here the response of a nonlinear vehicle model is used with a linear state model to optimize controller gains for nonlinear maneuvers. An emergency step lane change is used as a preliminary test of the method.  相似文献

This paper presents a systematic approach toward robust stability analysis of LQG-con trolled active suspension systems. To perform this task, the paper starts with a brief background information on LQG control, its relation to H 2 method, and showing how H 2 could be formulated to become the frequency domain equivalent of LQG. Then unstructured and structured uncertainties of active suspension are formulated. The paper continues with the definition of maximum singular values and structured singular values of a transfer function matrix. Using these definitions, the robust stability of an active suspension system in the presence of assumed parameter variations are analyzed. A simple vehicle model is presented incorporating passive, active, and semi-active suspensions. When the desired feedback variables are ideally available, the system response is well understood and excellent sprung mass isolation results. More often than not, the measured variables must be signal processed in some manner prior to their use in some control algorithm. Advanced Steering System with artificial steering wheel torque-active kinesthetic information feedback for improving handling qualities is discussed. Fundamentally the structure of the system may be considered to another form of model following control. In this system, a driver always remains in the control loop and receives steering control information which give him/her a direct hint to steer a steering wheel. This system works as a stability and control augmentation system of the vehicle to improve the vehicle handling qualities both in compensatory and pursuit control task, and is expected to reduce driver's workload. Effects of this system are analyzed in terms of man-machine system characteristics. Identification of driver dynamics was carried out to find why such improvement could be achieved. Availability of the proposed system is verified by analysis, simulator and proving ground tests.  相似文献

Automatic steering control algorithm has been proposed, which uses the motion of objects in a visual image (Optical Flow) obtained from an ITV camera looking ahead in the situation without forward vehicles. This algorithm is improved to be applicable to the situation in which the forward tracking course is invisible owing to the interfarence of the forward vehicles. The adjustment of the control parameters against the change in vehicle speed is confirmed by the computer simulation experiments.  相似文献

This paper presents a fuzzy control system for the clutch engagement of an automated manual transmission. The servomechanism is assembled with a three-port pneumatic pressure-proportional valve and a position-sensing cylinder which control the release-lever displacement of 25 mm within the position preciseness of 0.1 mm against maximum spring load of 2kN. The fuzzy system is skillful to estimate the driver's will from the accelerator pedal operation. The servomechanism is mounted on a commercial vehicle with 4-ton pay-load. The system parameters are set up by bond graphs simulation and empirical performance tests are carried by using an oil-hydraulically operated engine-vehicle testing rig with a maximum torque capacity of 400 Nm.  相似文献

This paper derives a method of controlling four wheel steering using optimal control theory. The purpose of control is to minimize the sideslip angle at the center of gravity. The control method feeds forward the steering wheel angle and feeds back the yaw velocity and the sideslip angle to the front and rear wheel angles. Theoretical studies show that the sideslip angle is reduced to zero even in the transient state, and that the understeer characteristic and frequency response can be changed regardless of the vehicle static margin. This Paper also examines various characteristics of the influence of the side force nonlinearities of tires and crosswinds.  相似文献

This paper deals with the novel control concept, so called ground-hook for active and mainly semi-active suspension of vehicles with the ultimate objective to minimize the tyre-road forces and thus the road damage. The basic ground-hook concept is extended to the several variants which enable to decrease criteria of road damage as well as to increase driver's comfort for a broad range of road unevennesses. Parameters of control law are determined by the parameter optimization for generally nonlinear model. The influence and interaction of the damping rate limits and time constants of variable shock absorbers are also taken into account.
