This paper formulates and examines the passenger flow assignment (itinerary choice) problem in high-speed railway (HSR) systems with multiple-class users and multiple-class seats, given the train schedules and time-varying travel demand. In particular, we take into account advance booking cost of travelers in the itinerary choice problem. Rather than a direct approach to model advance booking cost with an explicit cost function, we consider advance booking cost endogenously, which is determined as a part of the passenger choice equilibrium. We show that this equilibrium problem can be formulated as a linear programming (LP) model based on a three-dimension network representation of time, space, and seat class. At the equilibrium solution, a set of Lagrange multipliers for the LP model are obtained, which are associated with the rigid in-train passenger capacity constraints (limited numbers of seats). We found that the sum of the Lagrange multipliers along a path in the three-dimension network reflects the advance booking cost of tickets (due to advance/early booking to guarantee availability) perceived by the passengers. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate and illustrate the proposed model for the passenger assignment problem.  相似文献

We examine car driver’s behaviour when choosing a parking place; the alternatives available are free on-street parking, paid on-street parking and parking in an underground multi-storey car park. A mixed logit model, allowing for correlation between random taste parameters and estimated using stated choice data, is used to infer values of time, both when looking for a parking space and for accessing the final destination. Apart from the cost of parking, we found that vehicle age was a key variable when choosing where to park in Spain. We also found that the perception of the parking charge was fairly heterogeneous, depending both on the drivers’ income levels and whether or not they were local residents. Our results can be generalised for personalised policy making related with parking demand management.  相似文献

A framework to analyze the impact of the new electronic communication technologies on transportation systems in the business setting has been proposed. A component of the framework that focuses on the media choice processes of individuals was empirically tested using scenarios in which the physical mail media, courier services, the telephone, voice mail, and electronic mail were alternatives to complete information communication tasks. The media choice model developed in this research emphasizes the influence of the context of the communication activity on media choice. Individual and organizational characteristics are explicitly considered, along with variables describing the communication activity itself, and the relationship between the initiator and the recipient of the communication. These characteristics determine the relative importance of a set of communication attributes and personal needs which are then matched against the individual's perceptions and feelings about the media to form preferences and choices in specific contexts. Empirical results are presented using preference logit models for a series of information communication situations. Significant variations in preferences and the levels of significance of the independent variables provided evidence of the strong influence the context of the communication activity has on media choice. Implications of these results are discussed in terms of other types of business meetings which may involve choices between telecommunications media and transportation modes. The primary contribution of this research is a methodology that can be extended to rigorously analyze telecommunications-transportation interactions. This paper assesses the separate effects of consumer preferences and technological advances on sales-weighted average CO2 emissions of new passenger cars in the Netherlands. Since 2008, consumer preferences have been moving away from large size, weight and power whereby car buyers were offsetting more than 50% of the potential CO2 reduction from technological advances. From 2008 to 2011 consumer choices not only ceased to offset a large share of the technological advances, but contributed more than an additional 30% to CO2 reductions. Had consumer preferences not decoupled from the historical upward trend, the Dutch sales-weighted average CO2 emissions of new passenger cars would have been 139 g/km rather than the 126 grams CO2 per km in 2011.  相似文献
