Personal history I began my career with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) upon graduation from Kyoto University in 1967. During my 38year career at the company, I have been involved in a broad range of maritime activities, and have witnessed dramatic changes in the industry as it has sought to meet the changing needs of societies and the globalization of economies. Key events in my career include a posting to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines' San Francisco Representative Office from 1975 to 1979;becoming a staff officer of the Planning Division in 1987, followed by a promotion to Deputy General Manager of the Division in 1988; appointment as General Manager of Europe and Oceania Division in 1993; being elected to a directorship in 1996; promotion to Managing Director in 1998, Senior Managing Director in 2000, Deputy President in 2003, and finally President in 2004. For me, the shipping industry is both a business and a passion. I am extremely excited about the changes and challenges that lie ahead for the industry as we begin the 21^st Century, and consider myself to be in a most enviable position leading Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, a company at the vanguard of shipping developments, in these exhilarating times.  相似文献

The localized differential quadrature (LDQ) method is a numerical technique with high accuracy for solving most kinds of nonlinear problems in engineering and can overcome the difficulties of other methods (such as difference method) to numerically evaluate the derivatives of the functions.Its high efficiency and accuracy attract many engineers to apply the method to solve most of the numerical problems in engineering.However,difficulties can still be found in some particular problems.In the following study,the LDQ was applied to solve the Sod shock tube problem.This problem is a very particular kind of problem,which challenges many common numerical methods.Three different examples were given for testing the robustness and accuracy of the LDQ.In the first example,in which common initial conditions and solving methods were given,the numerical oscillations could be found dramatically;in the second example,the initial conditions were adjusted appropriately and the numerical oscillations were less dramatic than that in the first example;in the third example,the momentum equation of the Sod shock tube problem was corrected by adding artificial viscosity,causing the numerical oscillations to nearly disappear in the process of calculation.The numerical results presented demonstrate the detailed difficulties encountered in the calculations,which need to be improved in future work.However,in summary,the localized differential quadrature is shown to be a trustworthy method for solving most of the nonlinear problems in engineering.  相似文献

The roll motions of ships advancing in heavy seas have severe impacts on the safety of crews, vessels, and cargoes; thus, it must be damped. This study presents the design of a rudder roll damping autopilot by utilizing the dual extended Kalman filter(DEKF)–trained radial basis function neural networks(RBFNN) for the surface vessels. The autopilot system constitutes the roll reduction controller and the yaw motion controller implemented in parallel. After analyzing the advantages of the DEKFtrained RBFNN control method theoretically, the ship's nonlinear model with environmental disturbances was employed to verify the performance of the proposed stabilization system. Different sailing scenarios were conducted to investigate the motion responses of the ship in waves. The results demonstrate that the DEKF RBFNN–based control system is efficient and practical in reducing roll motions and following the path for the ship sailing in waves only through rudder actions.  相似文献

The computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method is used to numerically simulate a propeller wake flow field in open water.A sub-domain hybrid mesh method was adopted in this paper.The computation domain was separated into two sub-domains,in which tetrahedral elements were used in the inner domain to match the complicated geometry of the propeller,while hexahedral elements were used in the outer domain.The mesh was locally refined on the propeller surface and near the wake flow field,and a size function was used to control the growth rate of the grid.Sections at different axial location were used to study the spatial evolution of the propeller wake in the region ranging from the disc to one propeller diameter(D) downstream.The numerical results show that the axial velocity fluctuates along the wake flow;radial velocity,which is closely related to vortices,attenuates strongly.The trailing vortices interact with the tip vortex at the blades’ trailing edge and then separate.The strength of the vortex shrinks rapidly,and the radius decreases 20% at one diameter downstream.  相似文献

Shipping After entering into the 1990's, the ship-building industry, badly affected by the long recession of the world shipping market, has been growing very slowly, while the competition has been a fierce one. From the shares enjoyed by the major shipping countries in the world, we can see that the first one is Japan which occupied 38%; South Korea came to the second,obtaining 15%; the third is Germany, being 8%. The shipbuilding industry in America is shrinking, owing to the high cost of production. A simulation model of an electronically controlled two solenoid valve fuel injection system for a diesel engine is established in the AMESim environment.The accuracy of the model is validated through comparison with experimental data.The influence of pre-injection control parameters on main-injection quantity under different control modes is analyzed.In the spill control valve mode,main-injection fuel quantity decreases gradually and then reaches a stable level because of the increase in multi-injection dwell time.In the needle control valve mode,main-injection fuel quantity increases with rising multi-injection dwell time;this effect becomes more obvious at high-speed revolutions and large main-injection pulse widths.Pre-injection pulse width has no obvious influence on main-injection quantity under the two control modes;the variation in main-injection quantity is in the range of 1 mm3.  相似文献

The fuel sulfur content in marine fuels has been regulated in Sulfur Emission Control Areas(SECAs) since January 2015. However, other fuel characteristics are also believed to have an impact on particle emissions, particularly on the number of particles emitted. This study investigates the impact of the content of aromatics in fuel. To achieve fuel blends with concentrations of aromatics similar to those found in marine fuel oils, i.e. 20%–30% by volume(%vol.), normal diesel oil(4%–5% vol. aromatics) is doped with a mixture of aromatics. Emission measurements are conducted in test-bed engine facilities and particle emissions over a wide size range are analyzed. Results show a decreased number of particles emitted(or not change) with an increase in the aromatic concentration in fuel. This is because there is a reduction in the cetane number of the fuel with an increased aromatic content, which effects the combustion process and results in decreased particle formation. However, when ignition improver is used to increase the cetane number, particle emissions remain at a lower level than for normal diesel oil; thereby emphasizing the presence of other factors in the formation of particles.  相似文献
