This study evaluates individual preferences for five different cycling environments by trading off a better facility with a higher travel time against a less attractive facility at a lower travel time. The tradeoff of travel time to amenities of a particular facility informs our understanding of the value attached to different attributes such as bike-lanes, off-road trails, or side-street parking. The facilities considered here are off-road facilities, in-traffic facilities with bike-lane and no on-street parking, in-traffic facilities with a bike-lane and on-street parking, in-traffic facilities with no bike-lane and no on-street parking and in-traffic facilities with no bike-lane but with parking on the side. We find that respondents are willing to travel up to twenty minutes more to switch from an unmarked on-road facility with side parking to an off-road bicycle trail, with smaller changes associated with less dramatic improvements. 相似文献

近年来,伴随着我国基础设施建设的不断推进,隧道里程不断增多,隧道照明系统的重要性日益突出,因此对隧道洞口驾驶员视觉特性、减光设施的特点及减光效果进行研究,具有重要的意义。本文通过对隧道洞口驾驶员的视觉特性进行研究,分别论述各种洞口减光设施的特点,并以南京扬子江路隧道、富贵山隧道、双龙街立交隧道的检测数据为基础,计算减光设施对洞口亮度的影响,以及隧道内加强照明的亮度需求的降低程度,进一步分析得出采用减光设施对照明设施建设的投资影响以及可节约的照明养护成本等。 相似文献

Park-and-ride facilities are parking lots located on the periphery of cities to intercept car trips coming from the suburbs and diverting them to a transit system, thus playing a potentially important role in reducing traffic congestion and air pollution in urban areas. In this paper, we present a study carried out to shed light on where to install park-and-ride facilities in the city of Coimbra, central Portugal. Its main component is an optimization model which aims to determine the best possible locations for a given number of park-and-ride facilities under the objective of minimizing car use in the urban areas. The main result of the study is that the introduction of only three park-and-ride facilities could reduce car use in Coimbra's urban areas by 19%, an impact that would be very difficult to achieve through measures such as decreasing bus fares, increasing parking fees and/or increasing bus services. 相似文献

The demand for mental health services has been growing stronger over the last couple of decades. This indicates the need to study and assess the access to these mental health services especially with a focus on the vulnerable populations having the greatest need. As such, this paper presents a Geographical Information Systems (GIS)-based analysis in order to study and evaluate the accessibility of mental health facilities using the information on the spatial distributions of population and facilities, and regional traffic characteristics. For this purpose, different age group segments are utilized including the total population as well as those aged between 18 and 21, 22 and 49, 50 and 64, and those aged over 65 and 85. Focusing on the State of Florida, spatially detailed accessibility metrics are calculated with regard to healthcare facilities using travel times between population block groups and these critical mental health facilities. These estimates are used to calculate the weighted county accessibility scores for each county. Findings clearly delineate those counties that lack access to mental facilities, especially those in Northwest Florida, a demographically diverse and substantially rural region. This type of analysis can help planners and policy makers develop better strategies in order to provide adequate mental health care options needed in targeted locations. 相似文献

This paper examines the problem of locating additional passenger facilities on a transportation network to supplement ones that already exist. A distinction is made between “supporting” facilities which operate only in concert with already existing ones and “new” facilities which are self-sufficient and operate independently. It is shown that, when the objective is to maximize the utility of travel times to all users, at least one set of optimal locations for the new facilities exist on the nodes of the network if the utility function for travel times is convex. This result is proven under very general conditions including the assumption of a probabilistic transportation network, i.e. a network where travel times on network branches are random variables. A straightforward algorithm for solving a specific simple case is also provided and the results are illustrated by examples. 相似文献

Infrastructure facilities may be subject to probabilistic disruptions that compromise individual facility functionality as well as overall system performance. Disruptions of distributed facilities often exhibit complex spatial correlations, and thus it is difficult to describe them with succinct mathematical models. This paper proposes a new methodological framework for analyzing and modeling facility disruptions with general correlations. This framework first proposes pairwise transformations that unify three probabilistic representations (i.e., based on conditional, marginal, and scenario probabilities) of generally correlated disruption profile among multiple distributed facilities. Then facilities with any of these disruption profile representations can be augmented into an equivalent network structure consisting of additional supporting stations that experience only independent failures. This decomposition scheme largely reduces the complexity associated with system evaluation and optimization. We prove analytical properties of the transformations and the decomposition scheme, and illustrate the proposed methodological framework using a set of numerical case studies and sensitivity analyses. This paper presents two formulations and two solution procedures for a capacitated maximum covering location problem. In the first formulation, the problem is presented as a mixed-interger linear programming model which maximizes covered demand. In the second model, the objective function maximizes the weighted covered demand while at the same time minimizing the average distance from the uncovered demands to the located facilities. The second formulation attempts to account for the assignment of the demand which is not “covered” to located facilities which have excess capacity. This assignment is very important, especially for locating emergency service facilities. Two heuristic procedures are proposed to solve these models. These are based on greedy adding technique and Lagrangian relaxation. At each iteration, the demands are allocated to the facilities using an out-of-kilter method. The performance of the solution techniques are compared to the optimal solutions in a variety of test problems. 相似文献

This paper introduces a Multiobjective Hierarchical Model (MOHLM) for locating public facilities on a transportation network. The proposed model combines the multiobjective nature of the location-allocation problem with the hierarchical character of some public service systems, such as health care delivery. The model examines both maximum and total weighted travel time, facility utilization, and total travel time from the master facility to the attached subordinate facilities. An iterative goal programing algorithm is used to solve the problem. An example related to the location of health care facilities in a rural area of Greece is used to illustrate the application of the proposed model. 相似文献
