CNCFT'97 held in Dalian The 1997 China National Conference for Foreign Trade Transportation was recently held in Dalian. Over 130 leaders and reprensentatives concerned from State Commission for Trade and Economics, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Railways attended the meeting. Personal history I began my career with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) upon graduation from Kyoto University in 1967. During my 38-year career at the company, I have been involved in a broadrange of maritime activities, and have witnessed dramaticchanges in the industry as it has sought to meet the changingneeds of societies and the globalization of economies. Keyevents in my career include a posting to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines'San Francisco Representative Office from 1975 to 1979;becoming a staff officer of the Planning Division in 1987,followed by a promotion to Deputy General Manager of theDivision in 1988; appointment as General Manager of Europeand Oceania Division in 1993; being elected to a directorshipin 1996; promotion to Managing Director in 1998, SeniorManaging Director in 2000, Deputy President in 2003, andfinally President in 2004. For me, the shipping industry isboth a business and a passion. I am extremely excited aboutthe changes and challenges that lie ahead for the industry aswe begin the 21st Century, and consider myself to be in amost enviable position leading Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, acompany at the vanguard of shipping developments, in theseexhilarating times.

China draws the blueprint of strong shipbuilding country

On August 30 to 31st 2007, Mr. Jin Zhuanglong vice minister of COSTIND on the national shipbuilding work meeting clearly put forward that we should speed up our efforts to promote the strategic transformation of shipbuilding industry, and change our development objective from a large to a strong shipbuilding country. Before this, to fully carry out the "medium and long term development program for shipbuilding industry" and "the eleventh five-year program of shipbuilding development", the COSTIND successively issued the "eleventh five-year development program of ship’ s science and technology", the "eleventh five-year development program of marine equipment industry" and the "action plan of fully establishing modern shipbuilding mode (2006-2010)", which all mapped out the blueprint for making a strong shipbuilding country. In the next f ive to ten years, Chinese shipbuilding industry will sprint toward the shipbuilding power, keeping in mind the following objectives.
