This paper offers novel insights to the design and implementation of an innovative state-of-charge (SOC) estimator for the lithium-ion (Li-Ion) series battery pack. The most interesting feature of this approach is that it can utilize information from each filtered terminal voltage of the Li-Ion cells connected in series for SOC estimation of the battery pack. Without actual sensing each discharging/charging current (DCC) applied to the Li-Ion cells, it is possible to extract each DCC estimation from the corresponding filtered terminal voltages with an equivalent electrical circuit model (EECM) identification of all Li-Ion cells in the battery pack. There are two advantages to SOC estimation of the battery pack with this approach. First, the proposal can be implemented simply and effectively, reducing the computational steps required for SOC estimation. By reducing computational steps, the proposal is expected to be more cost-effective. Second, the approach guarantees an improved SOC performance, even if the battery pack results in inevitable cell-to-cell variation among Li-Ion cells. Accordingly, there are fewer differences to previously estimated DCCs among Li-Ion cells. Specifically, all values from the estimated DCCs are properly compensated for by simultaneous parameter modification according to each cell’s electrochemical characteristics. Experimental results clearly demonstrate that our DCC sensorless SOC estimator provides robust SOC performance for the battery pack. The paper reports on simulation experiments conducted by the International Study Group on Land‐Use/Transport Interaction (ISGLUTI) for the metropolitan region of Dortmund in the Federal Republic of Germany. Three land‐use/transport simulation models were applied to the Dortmund region: the DORTMUND model developed at the University of Dortmund, the LILT model being used at University College London and the MEPLAN package developed by Marcial Echenique & Partners in Cambridge. The three models are briefly characterized and their ex‐post forecasts are compared with the actual development of the region. The final section of the paper compares how the three models respond to a common set of assumptions and policies from the fields of land‐use control, traffic management and transport investment. When using limited funds on bicycle facilities, it would be helpful to know the extent to which a new facility will be used. If a bicycle lane is added to a street, how many bicyclists will no longer use the adjacent sidewalk? If a separate bicycle path is constructed, how many bicyclists will move from the street or sidewalk? This study seeks to identify factors that explain a bicyclist’s choice between available facility choices—off-street (sidewalk and bicycle path) or on-street (bicycle lane and roadway). This paper investigates these issues through a survey of bicyclists headed to Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, USA. The first data collected to address these questions were “site-based”. Bicyclists were interviewed on campus at the end of their trips and asked which part of the cross-sections along their routes they had used—on-street or off-street. The characteristics of a particular cross-section of street right-of-way were then compared against the characteristics of each bicyclist and his/her observed choice of street, sidewalk, lane, or path. Later, “route-based” serial data were also added. The study developed a mixed logit model to analyze the bicyclists’ facility preferences and capture the unobserved heterogeneity across the population. Effective sidewalk width, traffic signals, segment length, road functional class, street pavement condition, and one-way street configuration were found to be statistically significant. A bicycle path is found to be more attractive than a bicycle lane. Predictions from the model can indicate where investments in particular bicycle facilities would have the most desirable response from bicyclists. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the performance of a model azimuthing podded propulsor in ice-covered water.
Model tests were carried out with two different depths of cut into the ice (15 and 35 mm), two different ice conditions (presawn
and pack ice conditions), and four different azimuthing angles. The depth of cut is the maximum penetration depth of the propeller
blade into the ice block. The 0.3-m-diameter model propeller was operated in a continuous ice milling condition. Ice loads
were measured by several sensors which were installed in various positions on the model. Six one-axis pancake-style load cells
on the top of the model measured the global loads and two six-component dynamometers were installed on the shaft to measure
the shaft loads. One six-component dynamometer was attached to the one of the propeller blades inside the hub to measure the
blade loads. The pod unit and propeller performance in ice are presented. Ice-related loads, which were obtained when the
blade was inside the ice block, are introduced and discussed. During the propeller–ice interaction, a blade can experience
the path generated by the previous blade, which is called the shadowing effect. The effects of shadowing, depth of cut, azimuthing

A combined theoretical and experimental study has been carried out to determine the real potential of reducing pollutant emissions
in a HD diesel engine by means of retarding the intake valve closing. The effects produced by this alteration of the basic
operation cycle have been examined by a preliminary modelling study, and from the obtained results, a modified camshaft was
manufactured with a delayed intake valve closing of 60 crank angle degrees. Single-cylinder engine tests were carried out
with this modified camshaft, and the emissions and fuel consumption were recorded. The results showed that the retarded intake
valve closing can enhance the premixed combustion phase, and thus simultaneously reduce soot and NOx emissions. Moreover,
the combustion process attained is extremely tolerant to exhaust gas recirculation, and by adoption of this measure, Euro-5
emissions limits can be achieved at the tested conditions without after-treatment. 相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new trip distribution model for destinations that are not homogeneously distributed. The model
is a gravity model in which the spatial configuration of destinations is incorporated in the modeling process. The performance
was tested on a survey with reported grocery shopping trips in the Dutch city of Almelo. The results show that the new model
outperforms the traditional gravity model. It is also superior to the intervening opportunities model, because the distribution
can be described as a function of travel costs, without increasing the computational time. In this study, the distribution
was described by a simple function of Euclidean distance, which provides a good fit to the survey data. The slope of the distribution
is quite steep. This shows that most trips are made to nearby supermarkets. However, a significant fraction of trips, mainly
made by car, still goes to supermarkets further away. We argue that modeling of these trips by the new method will improve

This paper provides an analysis of trip generation of three vulnerable groups: single-parent families, low income households,
and the elderly. It compares the mobility of these groups to that of the general population in three Canadian urban areas
of Hamilton, Montreal and Toronto, based on data from large-sample metropolitan transport surveys. An ordered probit model
with spatially expanded coefficients is used for the analysis. Spatial expansion shows that there are spatial mobility trends
for elderly populations and low-income populations even after socio-economic attributes are accounted for. Such spatial differences
are not generally found for single parent families. This novel spatial analysis provides clues as to where vulnerable populations
may experience greater degrees of social exclusion. It provides information to help prioritize transportation infrastructure
projects or other social programs to take into account the needs of vulnerable populations with the lowest levels of mobility. 相似文献

This paper provides statistical evidence in support of the view, widely held in the tanker industry, that there are systematic differences in the degree of risk involved in investing in tankers of different sizes, and in operating tankers in spot and time charter markets. The industry view, broadly supported by the results of this paper, is that larger vessels are 'risker' assets than smaller vessels, and operating vessels in the time-charter market is less risky than employing them on a spot basis. The results are obtained by using a method derived from the financial economics literature, which models both the conditional mean and variance of a variable, known as GARCH modelling. Only one other paper has applied this method to the tanker market, and these results provide confirmatory support of those findings. 相似文献

A country can adopt one of two standards for traffic flow — cars may travel on the left or right side of the road. When drivers
who are accustomed to driving on the right side of the road drive on the left side, and vice versa, the mental workload is
likely increased due to the driver’s unfamiliarity with a new language, the position of the driver’s seat, different driving
directions, and other factors that differ from those of their home country. One method of doing this is to make sure that
the in-vehicle route guidance information (RGI) is not overly complicated — thereby assisting drivers in improving their safety.
Consequently, the aim of this study was to facilitate mobility and improve safety for natural right-side drivers driving temporarily
in left-side traffic. In this study, driver behavior and workload — given various types of RGI — were evaluated in a driving
simulator with a variety of prescribable test conditions. This research was composed of two experiments. In the first, various
types of in-vehicle route guidance systems were tested and evaluated in terms of their characteristics and associated driver
behaviors (while driving). In the second experiment, systemic factors and effectiveness were evaluated by two combined systems,
arrow and map-type information, based on the results of the first experiment. In light of both experiments, the various types
of route guidance systems were discussed in terms of their results. A navigation system was proposed to alleviate some of

A survey is given on the development of machine vision for road vehicle guidance. Through early work in real-time simulation with real hardware in the loop at UBM, and through the EUREKA-project 'Prometheus' from 1987 to 1994 following the 100 th anniversary of road vehicle developments since 1886, Europe has pioneered the field. Since first fully autonomous testdrives in 1986, and first participation in public traffic in 1992, considerable progress has been achieved. With continuous growth in computing power of microprocessors at a rate of about one order of magnitude every four to five years, sufficient performance levels for dynamic machine vision will be available within one or two decades. The principles of dynamic vision as developed at UBM and performance levels achieved are discussed. 相似文献
