The CCS Hydropower Station in Ecuador is a water diversion type power station, in which two superdeep vertical shafts with depth of 537.9 m are arranged. After comparison of alternative options, a new type of 1088DC RHINO raise boring machine was chosen to construct the vertical shafts. The construction process with the raise boring machine is divided into 3 stages, i.e. pilot hole construction by forward drilling, pilot shaft construction by reverse expanded excavation and shaft construction by manual expanded excavation. In view of the problems of buried drill bits and pilot hole deflection in the first stage, the problems of shaft collapse and cutter damage in the second stage, and the problems of collapse, water inflow and shaft blocking in the third stage, some preventive and treatment measures were proposed based on causes analysis, and good construction effect was achieved. The success- ful construction of super-deep vertical shafts at CCS hydropower station with raise boring method is significant to improve the construction level of deep shafts of domestic water conservancy and hydropower engineering, and the re- lated research can provide a reference for the similar shaft engineering construction. © 2018, Editorial Office of "Modern Tunnelling Technology". Improvements of management mode and application level of informationization techniques are the key factors to safe and efficient construction of the high-speed railway tunnels considering the complexity and diversity of construction techniques, unpredictable risk factors and varied geological conditions. In the paper it proposed a management mode for lean construction of high-speed railway tunnels, studied the in-depth integration and applica⁃ tion of key technologies of BIM, advance geological prediction, tunnel surrounding rock measurement, 3D laser scan⁃ ning, etc. in the lean construction management of high-speed railway tunnels, and developed the light portal APP and cloud-based information management system. Through the verification of practical engineering application, it re⁃ alized good monitoring of key risk resources in tunnel construction, redline control for key tasks and effective manage⁃ ment of safety and quality, increased efficiency of collaborative operation of all parties involved and reached the goal of lean construction and management. © 2018, Editorial Office of "Modern Tunnelling Technology". Restricted by site and construction period of ancillary structure of metro project, climbing excavation is often adopted. In order to determine tunnel face’s stability, the stabilities of working face in the cases of climbing ex- cavation and horizontal excavation were analyzed by theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. With upperbound limit analysis, the affected scope and positions of failure zone were compared; the position of equivalent strain zone and the law of horizontal displacement changes were studied by simulation analysis. The results show that the scope of failure zone caused by climbing excavation was slightly larger than that by horizontal excavation and the po- sition of affected zone is slightly lower than that by horizontal excavation; the horizontal displacement caused by climbing excavation within a scope of 0-1/3 height of tunnel face is slightly larger than that by horizontal excavation while it is slightly smaller beyond the scope of 0-1/3 height of tunnel face; the maximum horizontal displacements in the cases of climbing and horizontal excavation both occur at the place where is 1/3 height of work face and the de- formation of work face in the case of climbing excavation is not larger than that of horizontal excavation; the work face stabilities are mostly the same in the cases of climbing and horizontal excavation without regard to advanced support, and the work face stability is to be guaranteed with proper advanced support. © 2018, Editorial Office of "Modern Tunnelling Technology". Shellfish aquaculture can result in conflicts among stakeholders who perceive impacts and tradeoffs regarding sense of place, aesthetic, recreational, economic, and ecological values. Pacific geoduck clams (Panopea generosa Gould 1850) are grown in intertidal plots using gear- and labor-intensive techniques that result in a high value export product. A confluence of issues has resulted in on-going social and legal tensions surrounding geoduck aquaculture in southern Puget Sound, Washington (WA), USA. Using interviews and document analysis, we explored stakeholder perspectives and policy issues related to geoduck aquaculture in southern Puget Sound. Twenty-three stakeholders were interviewed, including state agency employees, representatives of the aquaculture industry, nongovernmental organizations, landowners, a tribal member, and an academic. Nine state hearings board decisions on challenges to aquaculture permits were also analyzed. Stakeholders articulated a variety of perspectives regarding aesthetic, recreational, land-use, ecological, political, regulatory, and economic aspects of geoduck aquaculture activities. Hearings board cases addressed similar issues (aesthetic, ecological, and recreational), as well as challenges to restrictions on aquaculture. Potential strategies for managing this conflict include emphasizing best management practices, identifying and incorporating best available science, joint fact-finding approaches, and initiating and improving communication among all stakeholders.  相似文献

Using a 2012 stated preference survey based on a traveler’s most recent actual trip, this study predicts traveler choices between general purpose lanes and managed lanes for a freeway in Houston, Texas. The choice model incorporates probability weighting for risky travel times. The results indicate significant improvement in predicative power over a model that excludes weighting, confirming non-linearity in the probability weighting function. The maximum value of time (VOT) measures calculated in this study are lower than estimated in many previous route choice studies. This highlights the importance of incorporating individual weights for travel risks. Travelers’ underweighting of travel time risks would help explain the lower VOTs found in our study because respondents consider route choice decision-making as a gamble, but assign their own probabilities of occurrence to arriving at their destination on time, late, or early. We find that traveler groups are heterogeneous and the different weights developed for different groups of travelers can be used to better understand their probabilities. Segmentation analysis indicates that Age may serve to proxy the effects of more experience over time, or changing driving abilities, or changes in one’s sense of optimism or pessimism at different ages. Gender and Income also play a role in how the objective probabilities presented to respondents were translated into subjective probabilities.  相似文献

This paper formulates a network design problem (NDP) for finding the optimal public transport service frequencies and link capacity expansions in a multimodal network with consideration of impacts from adverse weather conditions. The proposed NDP aims to minimize the sum of expected total travel time, operational cost of transit services, and construction cost of link capacity expansions under an acceptable level of variance of total travel time. Auto, transit, bus, and walking modes are considered in the multimodal network model for finding the equilibrium flows and travel times. In the proposed network model, demands are assumed to follow Poisson distribution, and weather‐dependent link travel time functions are adopted. A probit‐based stochastic user equilibrium, which is based on the perceived expected travel disutility, is used to determine the multimodal route of the travelers. This model also considers the strategic behavior of the public transport travelers in choosing their routes, that is, common‐line network. Based on the stochastic multimodal model, the mean and variance of total travel time are analytical estimated for setting up the NDP. A sensitivity‐based solution algorithm is proposed for solving the NDP, and two numerical examples are adopted to demonstrate the characteristics of the proposed model. The planning and implementation of a multimodal transportation system in the Holy City of Makkah to handle the huge volumes of pilgrims to the City is not a straightforward mission, as Makkah poses numerous challenges including its unique seasonal demand patterns, mountainous terrain, and limited space. Aerial ropeway transit (ART), a promising transport technology solution, could be an important component of this system. This paper presents the results of a technical and economic feasibility study to explore the potential of introducing ART service in Makkah. The study reveals that, overall, ART service on some corridors in Makkah is technically feasible, and with some necessary enforcement measures to attract ridership could become a profitable transportation investment. Specifically, the study recommends using ART for special user groups and service/emergency crews during peak seasons and opening ART to the public as a premium service during the off-peak season.  相似文献

The egg production of marine copepods correlates with a range of variables, including the availability of organic carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) 20:5(n−3) (EPA) and 22:6(n−3) (DHA). However, an understanding of which substrates limit egg production in the natural environment has yet to be reached. The quantities of C, N, EPA and DHA ingested, derived from parental biomass, and invested in eggs by female Calanus finmarchicus during a 5-day incubation experiment were examined using stoichiometric theory to determine which substrate was limiting. The majority of each substrate was derived from parental biomass, and therefore the existing stoichiometric theory is developed to include this route of supply. The females were essentially devoid of lipid reserves, as evidenced by the lack of the storage fatty acids 20:1(n−9) and 22:1(n−11), and carbon limitation was predicted under most of the scenarios examined. Nitrogen limitation was only apparent when carbon and nitrogen utilisation efficiencies were assumed to be high (0.5) and low (0.4) respectively. PUFAs were assumed to be utilised with high efficiency (0.9), and were never predicted to limit production. This work highlights the need for a more detailed understanding of the maintenance requirements that marine copepods have for C, N, EPA, and DHA and hence the efficiencies with these substrates can be utilised for growth.  相似文献

In this paper, we extend the standard discrete choice modelling framework by allowing for random variations in the substitution patterns between alternatives across respondents, leading to increased model flexibility. The paper shows how such a Mixed Covariance model can be specified either with purely random variation or with a mixture of random and deterministic variation. Additionally, the model can be based on an underlying GEV or ECL structure. Finally, the model can be specified as a continuous mixture or as a discrete mixture. An application on Stated Preference data for the choice of departure time and travel mode shows that important gains in model performance can be obtained by allowing for random covariance heterogeneity. Furthermore, the approach leads to significant differences in the implied willingness to pay measures, and the substitution patterns between alternatives.  相似文献
