This paper addresses the application of the perturbation/correlation method to optimizing the torque output of internal combustion
engines. This application was inspired by observations of the limitations in current techniques of the automotive performance
tuning industry. Performance issues such as errors from true optimum spark timing and fuel injector pulse width values as
well as convergence were considered for optimal tuning. The ability of the system to deal with engine cycle-to-cycle variations

High speed and sport utility vehicles with large joint articulation angle demand lower friction in automotive driveshaft joints
to meet noise and vibration comfort levels. Thus a more thorough understanding of internal friction characteristics and mechanisms
is required. In this paper, a friction model in automotive driveshaft joints was developed through the use of test data from
an instrumented Constant Velocity (CV) joint friction apparatus with actual driveshaft assemblies. Experiments were conducted
under different realistic operating conditions of oscillatory speeds, CV joint articulation angles, lubrication, and torque.
The experimental data was used to develop a physics-based semi-empirical CV joint internal friction model as a function of
different CV joint operating parameters. It was found that the proposed friction model captures the experimental results well.
Also the friction model estimates the generated axial force (GAF) in tripod CV joints well, which is the main source of force

This paper presents a modified lateral control method for an autonomous vehicle with both look-ahead and look-down sensing
systems. To cope with sensor noise and modeling uncertainty in the lateral control of the vehicle, a modified LMI-based H
lateral controller was proposed, which uses the look-ahead information of the lateral offset error measured at the front of
vehicle and the look-down information of the vehicle yaw angle error between the reference lane and the centerline of the
vehicle. To verify the safety and the performance of the lateral control, a scaled-down vehicle was developed, and the positioning
of the vehicle was estimated with USAT. The proposed controller, which uses both look-ahead and look-down information, was
tested for lane changing and reference lane tracking with both simulation and experiment. The simulation and experimental
results show that the proposed controller has better tracking and handling performance compared with a controller that uses

The present investigation deals with process analysis of oxy-acetylene flame assisted double pass line heating for varying plate thickness. oxy-acetylene flame as the heat source for multi pass line heating to achieve 3-D bending of plates with varying thicknesses was studied. The oxy-acetylene flame was modeled as the moving heat source in the FEM analysis. The transient thermal histories were predicted taking into account the temperature dependent thermo-mechanical properties. A comparative study between single pass and double pass line heating residual deformation was also carried out. Risk management is an inherent part of supplier selection. While companies are enjoying the benefits of outsourcing, risks brought by this practice should be taken into account in the process of decision making. This paper presents a multiobjective stochastic sequential supplier allocation model to help in supplier selection under uncertainty. Demand for products, capacities at suppliers as well as transportation and other variable costs are the main sources of uncertainty and are modeled using probability distributions. Disruptions are exogenous events and the model provides proactive mitigation strategies against disruptions by assigning backup suppliers who can be used in case of a default at a primary supplier. An adjoint 1-D model was used to determine vertical diffusivity coefficients from temperature profiles collected within a filament escaping from the Galician coast following an upwelling event. The optimisation scheme ended with relatively high diffusivity values within the thermocline (9×10−5 m2 s−1). Such high values are relevant for biogeochemical exchanges between surface and deep waters in stratified areas.The optimised values were several orders of magnitude higher than the bulk of diffusivity measurements recorded with a free-falling device; however, the optimisation solution was consistent with the arithmetic mean of the measurements in the thermocline (7.7×10−5 m2 s−1), giving more weight to the few largest values. Below the thermocline, the data assimilation method failed because of the three-dimensional nature of the advective field of the upwelling system. Ignoring this advective forcing in the model led to estimates that were two orders of magnitude too high.The results suggest that turbulent mixing is a random process where a few intense events determine the average mixing that drives the long-term evolution of the water column structure. This statistical property is very important when one wants to use instantaneous diffusivity measurements for modelling purposes. 相似文献
