This paper investigates a traffic volume control scheme for a dynamic traffic network model which aims to ensure that traffic volumes on specified links do not exceed preferred levels. The problem is formulated as a dynamic user equilibrium problem with side constraints (DUE-SC) in which the side constraints represent the restrictions on the traffic volumes. Travelers choose their departure times and routes to minimize their generalized travel costs, which include early/late arrival penalties. An infinite-dimensional variational inequality (VI) is formulated to model the DUE-SC. Based on this VI formulation, we establish an existence result for the DUE-SC by showing that the VI admits at least one solution. To analyze the necessary condition for the DUE-SC, we restate the VI as an equivalent optimal control problem. The Lagrange multipliers associated with the side constraints as derived from the optimality condition of the DUE-SC provide the traffic volume control scheme. The control scheme can be interpreted as additional travel delays (either tolls or access delays) imposed upon drivers for using the controlled links. This additional delay term derived from the Lagrange multiplier is compared with its counterpart in a static user equilibrium assignment model. If the side constraint is chosen as the storage capacity of a link, the additional delay can be viewed as the effort needed to prevent the link from spillback. Under this circumstance, it is found that the flow is incompressible when the link traffic volume is equal to its storage capacity. An algorithm based on Euler’s discretization scheme and nonlinear programming is proposed to solve the DUE-SC. We apply a 3-D circulation model with a biogeochemical module (ERGOM) for the simulation of trophic conditions in the Baltic Sea a century ago. One aim is to provide reference or background data for nitrogen, phosphorus and chlorophyll, which is required for the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). We assume that the situation a century ago serves this purpose well. Model input for this long-term simulation study are the regionally differentiated riverine and atmospheric nutrient loads to the Baltic Sea, which were compiled and calculated for a situation 100 years ago on the basis of various literature sources. For the mixed surface layer of the open Baltic Sea, we suggest maximum winter concentrations for dissolved phosphorus (dissolved inorganic nitrogen) of 0.23–0.35 (2.7–3.7) mmol/m3. Maximum chlorophyll-a concentrations are between 1.8 and 2.4 mg/m3. The concentrations of all parameters for different coastal waters vary in a wide range, depending on exposure to nutrient sources. Our nutrient concentrations for the situation a century ago are close to early measured data (1950–1960) and suggest that this data is suitable as reference data, as well. 相似文献

Abstract In some cases, the major risk encountered by an industry seeking to site a facility is that of community acceptance. Without community acceptance of a proposed project, construction can be delayed, taxes can be prohibitive, and operations can be prevented through the opposition and influence of local groups. This paper describes the community acceptance risk, the traditional industrial approach to countering local opposition, and a positive approach to achieving community acceptance. This positive approach entails careful site selection; affirmative management of the community acceptance problem, including explicit planning of the community acceptance effort, assignment of staff with specific responsibilities to implement plans, and a budget for mitigating the impacts of the project on the community; acquisition of sufficient land to buffer unavoidable impacts of the project; a carefully formed corporate policy on the public release of information concerning the project; and constructive participation in state and local government policy development. 相似文献

Transportation demand modeling has evolved in scope, theory, and practice in the many decades since the US Bureau of Public Roads pioneered home interview transportation studies in metropolitan households in the early 1940s. The major currents of these developments are discussed in the present paper through consideration of the changing role of the individual—as a source of data, as a unit of analysis, and as the intended beneficiary. In addition to reviewing this history we raise, but are unable to resolve, a growing current concern, namely how the public interest can be best served when the transportation data of greatest value is collected by private entities. 相似文献

Surface topology, cone angle and the forces acting on the cone of the clutch type limited slip differential (LSD) are major
design parameters for the bias ratio and the noise condition. Therefore much research has been dedicated to these developments
but the results have been used to submit patents. A new cone type limited slip differential for sport utility vehicles and
recreational vehicles, which has a very simple structure and easy compliance with the vehicle performance, has been developed
by the axiomatic approach and the ultrasonic nano crystal surface modification (UNSM) technology. The design criteria and
optimal value of the design parameters are determined by the axiomatic approach utilizing CAE tools. Test methodologies in
a test rig and in a vehicle were also developed. Test results showed good performance of bias ratio and noise level but durability

Some vehicle components are developed by setting target weights to the gram level at their design stages to accomplish a lightweight design. Recently, there have been many studies that have focused on lightweight design through the use of ultra-high-strength steels. However, a lightweight design can face many challenges if the reliability of the analysis is not also secured at the design stage. Such challenges include difficulties in coupled analyses when the file formats are different among PAM-STAMP, ABAQUS, and NASTRAN. In this study, we developed a mapping interface that enables mapping between the file formats of various software programs. Buckling analysis was coupled to the forming analysis, in which pre-strain test data were applied in considering the material’s strain hardening, to evaluate the rigidity of the front lower control arm that controls the wheels and transfers loads. The influence of forming effects on endurance was evaluated, and residual stresses around the weld zone were calculated. A comparison of experimental and analytical results indicated that the proposed analysis was highly reliable. 相似文献

There are three sub-processes associated with the assembly of an automobile transmission: heat fitting, shrink fitting, and
combination fitting. In the heat fitting stage, the gear is heated to a specified temperature and then squeezed towards the
outer diameter of the shaft. The stress of the heat-fitted gear depends on the yield strength of the gear. In the shrink fitting
process, the gear is typically squeezed towards the shaft at room temperature using a press. An alternate method, known as
warm shrink fitting, heats the already warm gear and safely squeezes it toward the shaft. The warm shrink fitting process
for automobile transmission parts is becoming more commonplace, but the additional heating can cause the dimensions of the
assembled parts (shaft/gear) to change with respect to both the outer diameter and the profile of the gear. As a result, there
may be additional noise and vibration between gears. To address these problems, we analyzed the warm shrink fitting process
using the contact pressure caused by fitting interference between the outer diameter of the shaft and the inner diameter of
the gear, fitting temperature, and the profile tolerance of the gear as design parameters. In this study, a closed form equation
for predicting the contact pressure and fitting load is proposed. This equation is used to develop an optimization technique
for the warm shrink fitting process. The reliability of the model was verified using experimental results measured in the
field, and FEM with thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field showed good agreement with
the results obtained by theoretical and finite element analysis, and expansion of the outer diameters of the gears agreed

A mode choice decision structure incorporating traveler attitudes toward modes and situational constraints is investigated. The major hypothesis tested is that mode choice is determined primarily by situational constraints, such as auto ownership and income, secondly by the quality of alternative modes.The structure of the mode choice process is analyzed with respect to (1) applicability of certain choice criterion forms; (2) psychological weighting of modal attributes in the choice criterion; (3) strength of logit, probit, and discriminant functional forms; (4) the relative strength of socio-economic and attitudinal variables in predicting mode choice. An evaluation is made of 50 binary choice models fitted to a sample of 471 randomly drawn urban travelers. Results indicate that (1) the four choice criterion forms tested are all about equal in predictive strength; (2) psychological weighting has no effect on model strength, but does influence which modal attributes appear to determine choice; (3) the three functional forms tested are all about equal in strength; (4) situational factors account for 80–90% of variation explained by the models, attitudes toward modes 10–20%, thus confirming the primary hypothesis. Implications of these results for mode choice modeling and transit planning are discussed.This paper summarizes current research at the New York State Department of Transportation on the motivations and causes of travel behavior.
