A proportional shares model of daily time allocation is developed and applied to the analysis of joint activity participation between adult household members. The model is unique in its simultaneous representation of each decision maker's decisions concerning independent activity participation, allocation of time to joint activities, and the interplay between individual and joint activities. Further, the model structure ensures that predicted shares of joint activity outcomes be the same for both decision makers, an improvement over models that do not make interpersonal linkages explicit. The empirical analysis of travel diary data shows that employment commitments and childcare responsibilities have significant effects on tradeoffs between joint and independent activities. In addition, evidence is presented for the continued relevance of gender-based role differences in caring for children and employment participation. 相似文献

The interactions between e-shopping and traditional in-store shopping: an application of structural equations model 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
As the proliferation of e-commerce leads to ever greater numbers of on-line transactions, transportation planners are interested in the impacts of e-shopping on our strained transportation systems. Although the substitution effect of e-shopping is appealing, previous studies provided mixed results on its impact. Using 539 adult internet users in the Minneapolis-St Paul metropolitan area, this study applied a structural equations model to investigate the interactions among online purchases, in-store shopping, and product information search via internet. We found that online searching frequency has positive impacts on both online and in-store shopping frequencies and online buying positively affects in-store shopping. In particular, the marginal effects of online-buying frequency and online-searching frequency on in-store shopping frequency were estimated at 0.153 and 0.189, respectively. Since the internet as a shopping channel tends to have a complementary effect on in-store shopping, the rise of e-shopping is not likely to be a solution but a challenge to travel reduction. 相似文献

Abstract This article investigates the role of bus rapid transit as a tool for mitigation of transport‐related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. We analyse a Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) implemented in Dublin, Ireland, in 1999 and estimate CO2 emissions associated with differing levels of bus priority for the period 1998–2003 and for the Kyoto commitment period (2008–12). Associated monetary values are established using CO2 prices from the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme. We find that, in the absence of a QBC, peak‐time emissions for our sample population would have been 50% higher than in the factual scenario. For the Kyoto commitment period, we find the median value of the policy implementation to be in the region of [euro]650 000. 相似文献

Trip chaining is a phenomenon that we know exists but rarely investigate. This could be attributed to either the difficulty
in defining trip chains, extracting such information from travel diary surveys, the difficulty in analysing all the possible
trip chain types, or all of the above. Household travel diary surveys provide a wealth of information on the travel patterns
of individuals and households. Since such surveys collect all information related to travel undertaken, in theory it should
be possible to extract trip-chaining characteristics of travel from them. Due to the difficulty in establishing and analysing
all of the possible trip chain types, the majority of research on trip chaining has appeared to focus on work travel only.
However, work related travel in many cities does not represent the majority of activities undertaken and, for some age groups,
does not represent any travel at all. This paper begins by reviewing existing research in the field of trip chaining. In particular,
investigations into the definitions of trip chaining, the defined typologies of trip chains and the research questions that
have been addressed are explored. This review of previous research into trip chaining facilitates the following tasks: the
identification of the most useful questions to be addressed by this research; defining trip chaining and associated typologies
and defining data structures to extract trip chaining information from the household travel surveys conducted in metropolitan
Adelaide, South Australia. The definition and typology developed in our research was then used to extract trip-chaining information
from the household travel diary survey (MAHTS99) conducted in Adelaide in 1999. The extracted trip chaining information was
then used to investigate trip-chaining behaviour by households. The paper reports the results of this analysis and concludes

This paper presents results from a plug-in hybrid vehicle drive share program involving retrofitted hybrid electric vehicles. A potential for high fuel efficiency is indicated, however, the average fuel efficiency was only marginally better than conventional hybrid vehicles. This is due to the majority of vehicle miles traveled occurring on trips outside the “all electric” range and very short trips where fuel consumption is dominated by emissions control strategies. The work also considers the availability of the battery for vehicle to grid services and finds that there are a large number of trips in the afternoon period, typically when electrical demand is at a peak. Vehicle charging activity also tended towards daytime activity, contrary to the oft-assumed off-peak charging pattern. 相似文献

The paper develops a methodology for assessing the relative risk levels in moving hazardous materials by various transport modes. Transportation Risk ANalysis tool for hazardous Substances (TRANS) divides routes into smaller segments using multi-criteria analysis and likelihood scores of accidents in which dangerous cargoes are involved possibly causing fatalities. The consequences of accident scenarios are calculated in terms of the number of people within 1% of the lethal distance from the accident centre. This provides a user-friendly, semi-quantitative risk analysis tool. The generic method allows for comparing the risk levels of the segments of routes used in the transportation of hazardous goods. 相似文献
