Recent improved and rigorous mathematical models describing the formation and dissipation of queues at signalized intersections are employed for deriving delay and effective queue size. Analytical and numerical solutions are presented that are applicable for both isolated and coordinated intersections. Comparisons against results obtained from conventional models reveals significant differences. Further, it is demonstrated that the current practice of calculating delays from input-output analysis results in substantial overestimation of delays. The optimal transportation network design problem is formulated as a convex nonlinear programming problem and a solution method based on standard traffic assignment algorithms is presented. The technique can deal with network improvements which introduce new links, which increase the capacity of existing links, or which decrease the free-flow (uncongested) travel time on existing links (with or without simultaneously increasing link capacity). Abstract Major air pollutants from maritime shipping operations are sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter emissions from combustion of fuel oil during cruise, berth, and start‐up modes. Sulfur oxides emissions are substantial from steamships burning high‐sulfur residual fuel oil, where shipping contributes 66 percent of the total sulfur dioxide emissions from transportation sources, and almost 3 percent of the total for Harris county, Texas. Nitrogen oxides emissions are significant during cruise conditions for both steamships and motor ships, while particulate emissions are substantial during start‐up and tube cleaning. Significant marine air pollutant emission sources are found in busy harbor areas such as the Houston Ship Channel. Offshore terminals for unloading large tankers may result in emissions of 10 to 20 tons of sulfur oxides daily per ship, and 3 to 5 tons of nitrogen oxides daily per ship during pumping operations. Trace‐metal constituents present in the oil may catalyze sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide oxidation to their respective sulfate and nitrate aerosols in the humid Texas Gulf Coast atmospheres to aggravate photochemical air pollution problems once the air masses reach industrial and populated urban areas on land. Onshore sulfur dioxide and particulate‐matter emission controls may be necessary for some large ships in port to minimize potential impact on coastal zone air quality. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe tyre plays a fundamental role in the generation of acoustically perceptible driving noise and vibrations inside the vehicle. An essential part of these vibrations is induced by the road excitation and transferred via the tyre into the vehicle. There are two basic ways to study noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) behaviour: Simulations in time and frequency domains. Modelling the tyre transfer behaviour in frequency domain requires special attention to the rotation of the tyre. This paper shows the approach taken by the authors to include the transfer behaviour in the frequency range up to 250?Hz from geometric road excitations to resulting spindle forces in frequency domain. The main objective of the presented study was to compare the effectiveness of two standard test procedures for evaluating bus roof integrity: the dynamic rollover test according to UN-ECE Regulation 66 (ECE-R66), and the quasi-static symmetric roof loading according the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 220 (FMVSS 220). Both tests were applied to a selected Paratransit Bus. The investigation was carried out primarily using a numerical study backed up by experimental validation tests on components and full scale rollover tests. A sensitivity analysis using LS-OPT? was performed to identify the most important structural components influencing the response of the bus in these two tests. The results obtained from this study show that the final outcome of the crashworthiness assessment of the selected paratransit bus depends on the selection of the evaluation standard. Although the two tests are used for the same purpose of roof integrity evaluation, their results are divergent and may lead to different conclusions. The paper presents a discussion on the effectiveness of both standards in evaluating the rollover crashworthiness. 相似文献

In this paper, we explore the notion that a human driver uses a receding horizon model predictive control (MPC) scheme for minimum-time manoeuvering. However, MPC is an inherently sub-optimal control scheme because not all future information is incorporated into its finite preview horizon. In many practical applications, this sub-optimality is tolerated as the solution is sufficiently close to optimal. However, it is known that professional drivers have the ability to learn driving circuits and exploit its features to minimise their global manoeuvering time. In this paper, we will model their process with a cascaded optimisation structure. Therein, the inner-loop features a local MPC scheme tasked with finding the control inputs that achieve a blended objective of minimising time and maximising velocity in each preview horizon/distance. The outer loop of this cascaded structure computes the best set of weights for the two components of the local objectives in order to minimise the global manoeuvering time. The proposed cascaded optimisation and control approach is compared against a straight-forward fixed-cost time optimal MPC applied to minimum-time manoeuvering over two well-known race courses. The paper also includes an extended literature review and details of the computational formulation of the model approach. 相似文献

This paper presents a method for estimating the vehicle side slip angle, which is considered as a significant signal in determining
the vehicle stability region in vehicle stability control systems. The proposed method combines the model-based method and
kinematics-based method. Side forces of the front and rear axles are provided as a weighted sum of directly calculated values
from a lateral acceleration sensor and a yaw rate sensor and from a tire model according to the nonlinear factor, which is
defined to identify the degree of nonlinearity of the vehicle state. Then, the side forces are fed to the extended Kalman
filter, which is designed based on the single-track vehicle model associated with a tire model. The cornering stiffness identifier
is introduced to compensate for tire force nonlinearities. A fuzzy-logic procedure is implemented to determine the nonlinear
factor from the input variables: yaw rate deviation from the reference value and lateral acceleration. The proposed observer
is compared with a model-based method and kinematics-based method. An 8 DOF vehicle model and Dugoff tire model are employed
to simulate the vehicle state in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results shows that the proposed method is more accurate than

This paper first describes the control strategy used in a hybrid electric public bus and then proposes a torque-balancing
control strategy. Simulations were performed using the designed control strategies, and the results were analyzed under different
conditions. The torque-balancing control strategy was improved on the basis of the efficiency-first ideas of the hybrid system.
Finally, experiments were performed to verify that the efficiency-first and torque-balancing control strategy (EFCS) is both
feasible and reliable. The simulation results showed that, compared with a conventional public bus, the hybrid electric bus
could save approximately 27.3 percent on fuel consumption using the EFCS control strategy in a public bus in China, while

Post license advanced driver training programs in the US and early programs in Europe have often failed to accomplish their stated objectives because, it is suspected, that drivers gain self perceived driving skills that exceed their true skills—leading to increased post training crashes. The consensus from the evaluation of countless advanced driver training programs is that these programs are a detriment to safety, especially for novice, young, male drivers.Some European countries including Sweden, Finland, Austria, Luxembourg, and Norway, have continued to refine these programs, with an entirely new training philosophy emerging around 1990. These ‘post-renewal’ programs have shown considerable promise, despite various data quality and availability concerns. These programs share in common a focus on teaching drivers about self assessment and anticipation of risk, as opposed to teaching drivers how to master driving at the limits of tire adhesion. The programs focus on factors such as self actualization and driving discipline, rather than low level mastery of skills. Drivers are meant to depart these renewed programs with a more realistic assessment of their driving abilities. These renewed programs require considerable specialized and costly infrastructure including dedicated driver training facilities with driving modules engineered specifically for advanced driver training and highly structured curriculums. They are conspicuously missing from both the US road safety toolbox and academic literature. Given the considerable road safety concerns associated with US novice male drivers in particular, these programs warrant further attention.This paper reviews the predominant features and empirical evidence surrounding post licensing advanced driver training programs focused on novice drivers. A clear articulation of differences between the renewed and current US advanced driver training programs is provided. While the individual quantitative evaluations range from marginally to significantly effective in reducing novice driver crash risk, they have been criticized for evaluation deficiencies ranging from small sample sizes to confounding variables to lack of exposure metrics. Collectively, however, the programs sited in the paper suggest at least a marginally positive effect that needs to be validated with further studies. If additional well controlled studies can validate these programs, a pilot program in the US should be considered. 相似文献
