A continuous time control strategy for an active suspension with preview, based on optimal control theory, is presented. No approximation is needed to model the time delay between the excitation of the front and the rear wheels. The suspension is applied to a two DOF model of the rear side of the tractor of a tractor-semitrailer. The purpose of the suspension is to reduce either the required suspension working space or the maximum absolute acceleration of the sprung mass, without an increase of the dynamic tire force variation. For a step function as road input, reductions of 65% and 55%, respectively, are possible compared with a passive suspension. 相似文献

A forced steering rail vehicle employs linkages between.the carbody and wheelsets to force a more radial wheelset alignment. It is shown that the curve negotiation capability of forced steering trucks is significantly improved over conventional and self steering radial trucks. Parametric curves are presented showing angle-of-attack and lateral flange force as a function of steering gain parameters and truck bending stiffness. It is also shown that the forced steering concept can produce kinematic instability and severely reduced critical speeds for low conicities and creep coefficients. We investigate whether travel mode, travel time, and activities during travel influence children’s satisfaction with their travel to school, their current mood, and their cognitive performance after arriving at school. A sample of 344 children (165 girls) between the ages of 10 and 15 years were recruited at five public schools in Värmland County, Sweden. Directly after arriving at school, the children rated how they felt on two scales ranging from very sad to very happy and from very tired to very alert, filled out the Satisfaction with Travel Scale adapted for children (STS-C), reported details about their journeys, and took a word-fluency test. The results for STS-C showed that traveling by school bus and walking or cycling was experienced as having a higher quality than traveling by car. Children who engaged in conversation during their journeys reported a higher quality and more positive feelings than children who were engaged in solitary activities during their journeys. A shorter journey was experienced as having a higher quality and resulting in more positive feelings. Children traveling for longer durations performed better in the word-fluency test if using their smartphones or doing a combination of activities during their journeys. 相似文献

In the last four years, some 20 urban areas in the UK have commissioned or considered conducting Integrated Transport Studies, which are designed to develop a transport strategy for the next 20–30 years. Such studies represent a new approach to transport policy formulation, since they respond to a vision of the future for the area, treat a wide range of transport and land use policy instruments, emphasize synergy between those instruments, and provide a framework for facilitating action rather than a rigid blueprint for the future. They also differ from past studies in the speed with which they have been conducted, and in the analytical techniques which have made this possible. This paper reviews the background to these studies, the evaluation approach adopted, the policy instruments considered and the analytical methods developed for the studies. It concludes with an assessment of the policy implications stressing in particular the need to reduce trip length, the crucial impact of pricing as an instrument of transport policy, the importance of achieving synergy in strategy development, and the requirement for a common basis for evaluating and financing different transport policy instruments. 相似文献

There is growing public pressure, from environmentalist groups and others, for the imposition of lorry bans in urban areas. In the U.K. such bans have so far only been imposed as through‐route bans by small towns, such as Windsor, where the overall impact on operators and on road freight costs is limited. The Greater London Council's response to the pressure for lorry bans has been to set up a Committee of Inquiry to examine the impact of an access ban on the heaviest lorries in the London area. The proposed ban would apply to an area enclosed by the M25 orbital motorway within which vehicles above a specified gross tonnage would not be allowed to operate. A number of metropolitan authorities elsewhere in the U.K. are thought to be considering similar restrictions on lorries. In this paper, the impact of area lorry bans on goods vehicle operating costs is discussed. It is suggested that practices based on “direct distribution” techniques may prove less costly than the operating alternatives that have been evaluated in the past which include public transhipment depots and the exclusive use of small vehicles. 相似文献

The very special topography of Greece with the hundreds of mainland and island ports generates vast possibilities for developing routing networks to link the ports to each other while satisfying total demand. An algorithm which minimizes total operating costs (fixed and variable) has been adapted and used to determine an optimal network solution. The total operating costs of this solution is compared to the total operating costs of the existing (1964 data) network and the optimal networks when fixed and variable costs are minimized independently. As paratransit services, Hong Kong's taxis and public light buses (PLB) carried some 30% of the 9.7 million daily public transport boardings in Hong Kong in 1988. Most of the vehicles are individually owned, and services are operated as commercially viable concerns. While operators have a high degree of operational flexibility, taxis and PLBs are closely regulated by the Government. The fleet sizes are controlled by licensing. There is a system of zoning for taxis, and operational prohibitions and restrictions for PLBs. Over the years, Hong Kong has developed some practicable means of operational control on taxis and PLBs. It has been 20 years since PLBs were legalized in 1969. The transition experienced by this mode, from no control to regulated operations, signifies a major step forward from the point of view of transport administration. The Government's participation in the planning for PLB services has guided the development of this mode. In this paper, the planning and control mechanisms for Hong Kong's paratransit modes are introduced. Identified deficiencies are also discussed. 相似文献
