This paper moves beyond traditional models of car ownership in that we propose a framework for modeling household-level decisions
to acquire specific types and numbers of mobility tools to fulfill the mobility needs of household members. The framework
is applied to a data set collected during the winter and spring of 2000/2001 in the German city Karlsruhe via an interactive
web-based stated response survey in which respondents could optimize their household mobility tool sets through on-line feedback
concerning the estimated costs of the sets. In our analysis, bivariate ordered probit models are estimated for three combinations
of mobility tools: season tickets (i.e., transit passes) and cars, season tickets and small cars and season tickets and large
cars. In all instances, strong substitution effects are found – that is, as the number of season tickets increases, the number
of cars decreases. This finding underscores the need to move beyond simple models of car ownership to comprehensive models
of mobility tool ownership. As demonstrated by our research, failure to do so is likely to lead to biased results. 相似文献

The contribution that Leigh Marine Reserve in northern New Zealand makes to the local spiny lobster fishery was examined by comparing the catch characteristics of Jasus edwardsii around the reserve boundary with those from Coastal Leigh, 0.3-2 km from the reserve, and Little Barrier Island, 22-30 km from the reserve. Seasonal trends were apparent in the reserve catch characteristics, consistent with lobster movements into and out of offshore fishing areas adjacent to the boundary. No significant difference was detected in catch per unit effort (kg.trap haul -1 ) among locations. However, the catch around the marine reserve consisted of fewer but larger lobsters than at Little Barrier Island, while the size and number of lobsters caught per trap haul at Coastal Leigh was intermediate between the other two locations. Catch rates around the reserve were more variable than at the other sites, but on average, the amount of money made per trap haul was similar to Little Barrier Island and Coastal Leigh. 相似文献

This paper presents an overview of some recent developments in and policy issues relating to integrated transport systems in the European Union (EU). Abstract People riding transit in the city of Detroit walk on average 0.8 miles (1.3 km) per round trip. The straight-line walking distance was found by buffering the bus stop locations and comparing them to the weighted US Census blocks. However, the true walking path follows the street pattern. Rather than undertaking network analysis, which would require connecting all addresses in the city with all bus stops, a Monte Carlo simulation was performed in geographic information system with random addresses. The simulation was performed over several addresses until convergence was achieved. The distances were converted to walking times and compared to the US National Household Transportation Survey. 相似文献

The lateral dynamics of an uncontrolled motorcycle, running on a straight, level road surface, is investigated in this paper. The structural compliances in the front and the rear frames of the motorcycle are taken into account by introducing additional degrees of freedom in the analysis. The kinematics of the tires is represented by linear differential equations which are based on the taut-string model of pneumatic tires. The linear differential equations of motion are solved to yield the eigensolutions of the system.
