Interest in alternative behavioural paradigms to random utility maximization (RUM) has existed ever since the dominance of the RUM formulation. One alternative is known as random regret minimization (RRM), which suggests that when choosing between alternatives, decision makers aim to minimize anticipated regret. Although the idea of regret is not new, its incorporation into the same discrete choice framework of RUM is very recent. This paper is the first to apply the RRM‐model framework to model choice amongst durable goods. Specifically, we estimate and compare the RRM and RUM models in a stated choice context of choosing amongst vehicles fuelled with petrol, diesel and hybrid (associated with specific levels of fuel efficiency and engine capacity). The RRM model is found to achieve a marginally better fit (using a non‐nested test of differences) than its equally parsimonious RUM counterpart. As a second contribution, we derive a formulation for regret‐based elasticities and compare utility‐based and regret‐based elasticities in the context of stated vehicle type choices. We find that in the context of our choice data, mean estimates of elasticities are different for many of the attributes and alternatives. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Abstract The concepts of optimal strategy and hyperpath were born within the framework of static frequency-based public transport assignment, where it is assumed that travel times and frequencies do not change over time and no overcrowding occurs. However, the formation of queues at public transport stops can prevent passengers from boarding the first vehicle approaching and can thus lead to additional delays in their trip. Assuming that passengers know from previous experience that for certain stops/lines they will have to wait for the arrival of the 2nd, 3rd, …, k-th vehicle, they may alter their route choices, thus resulting in a different assignment of flows across the network. The aim of this paper is to investigate route choice behaviour changes as a result of the formation and dispersion of queues at stops within the framework of optimal travel strategies. Accurately predicting the fatigue life is the basis for the reliability and lightweight design of automobile parts. However, the predicted lives under service loadings on the basis of the S-N curve from constant amplitude loads from existing methods often seems conservative compared with real lives, because of ignoring the strengthening effect of loads below fatigue limit. In this paper, a fatigue damage model, which is modification of Miner’s Rule, was established for the fatigue assessment under service loadings by means of taking into account the strengthening and damaging effects of loads below fatigue limit. Then this model and conventional Miner’s Rule are applied to the estimate the fatigue life of a torsion beam rear axle using the loading history recorded on proving ground. Finally, verification tests are performed on MTS road load simulator test bed. Results of predicted lives and fatigue tests demonstrate that the accuracy of the predicted life could be greatly improved by taking into account the strengthening and damaging effect of loads below fatigue limit. 相似文献

Due to the increasing use of fossil fuel, carbon dioxide emission also increased and environmental problems have emerged as social issues. Accordingly, the research about electric vehicles as personal transportation has been actively performed. An electric scooter is not as complex as an automobile, but it takes a lot of time and costs to design and develop a new vehicle due to trial and error in selecting the specifications of core components according to consumer’s requirements. In this paper, a performance simulator for an electric scooter with an in-wheel motor at the rear wheel was developed and the simulation results were verified through experiments. For a longer travelling distance with the same energy source, the regenerative braking algorithm that converts kinetic energy into electric energy during braking was applied. This paper is concerned with the numerical prediction of the hysteretic loss-induced rolling resistance of 3-D periodic patterned tire. Elastomeric rubber compounds of rolling tire exhibit the hysteretic loss owing to the phase difference between stress- and strain-time responses. By virtue of this physical characteristic, the rolling resistance is considered as a pseudo-force resisting the tire rolling. The 3-D periodic patterned tire model is constructed by copying an 1-sector mesh in the circumferential direction, and strain cycles of each strain component are approximated by 3-D static tire contact analysis. According to the principal value of half strain amplitudes, the hysteretic loss is calculated in terms of the amplitude of the maximum principal strain and the loss modulus of rubber compound. Gasoline direct-injection (GDI) engines have been reported to produce significantly more particulate matter (PM) mass and particulate number (PN) emissions than do port-fuel-injection (PFI) spark ignition engines. Because smallsized particles are of great concern in terms of their regulation, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to evaluate the sizes of primary and aggregate particles that were thermophoretically collected from three different GDI engines under various engine operating conditions. A low load and retarded fuel injection generally reduced the particle size. Consequently, when the fuel injection timing was delayed at low loads, primary and aggregate particles became extremely small. In particular, a number of nanoparticles were sub-23-nm particles. Careful high-resolution TEM (HRTEM) analyses provided the first evidence that these nanoparticles are solid carbon particles with clear fringe patterns and young soot (and/or highly condensed semi-volatiles) with amorphous carbon patterns. Therefore, this result suggests that the current cut-off size at 23 nm for PN regulation in Euro 6 must be further reduced to include sub-23-nm carbon nanoparticles. 相似文献

We present network requirements for an overtaking assistant service using wireless access in vehicular environment (WAVE). Currently, DNPW has been proposed as a representative overtaking assistant service with vehicle-tovehicle (V2V) communication. In order to analyze its network performance, we construct a maneuver model for an overtaking system. According to this model, we configured a scenario for network simulation based on the 802.11p WAVE standard. The results confirm that a radio range for overtaking needs only a single hop without routing methods. Moreover, we propose an additional safe distance for the communication delay generated by an increase in the numbers of neighboring vehicles. And for high priority activity of safety services, we present a proper access category (AC) of enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA).
