This paper presents a new technique for reducing frictional drag using a super-water-repellent surface and air-injection
(called an SWR & A technique). Its effectiveness was examined by carrying out pressure-loss measurements with a tube of rectangular
cross section, along with resistance tests on a horizontal flat plate, a 7.2-m-long tanker model, and a 12-m-long high length-to-beam-ratio
model ship. These test results showed that the new technique can significantly reduce the models' frictional drag; for example,
the frictional resistance on the SWR surface was reduced by 80% at a speed of 4 m/s and 55% at 8 m/s.

The road pricing is regarded as a transport policy to realize the efficient use of urban network. The network analysis with variable demand has been often applied to describe the network level of congestion pricing on the urban network. In the study, the cordon pricing system is analyzed to implement in the urban area with practical approach. It is assumed that the congestion tolls are collected in crossing the cordon lines on the network. Therefore, the scale of cordon zones and the values of congestion tolls would be determined simultaneously to produce the maximum social net benefit. The combinatorial optimization with unit price is formulated. The genetic algorithm (GA) is applied as a practical method to provide the solutions for the combinatorial optimization problem. As the pattern of cordon pricing is determined, the performance of system is estimated to confirm the applicability. To rationally assess the consequence of a ship’s hull girder collapse, it is necessary to know the post-ultimate strength behavior of the hull girder including the global deformation and motions under extreme wave-induced loads. In the foregoing research, the authors proposed a numerical analysis system to predict the collapse behavior in waves including the post-ultimate strength behavior. The primary objective of the present paper is to clarify the parametric dependencies of the severity of the collapse in a rational manner. The parameters may include those related to load-carrying capacity and the extreme loads. To this end, an analytical solution to describe the post-ultimate strength behavior is derived. Assuming that a plastic hinge is formed at the midship during the collapse procedure, the whole ship is modeled as a two-rigid-bodies system connected to each other amidship via a nonlinear rotational spring, which represents the nonlinear relationship between the bending moment and the rotational angle. The relationship may be modeled as piece-wise linear curves. It is further assumed that large motions and elastic/plastic deformations of the hull girder may not affect the load evaluations, and that the hull girder is subjected to a large single wave. A linearized 2-D radiation problem was considered for a general floating body in a two-layer fluid of finite depth. A boundary integral-equation method was developed for directly computing the velocity potential on the wetted surface of a body which is immersed in both the upper and lower layers as a general case. To do this, appropriate time-harmonic Greens functions were derived, and an efficient numerical method of evaluating those functions is proposed. Based on Greens theorem, hydrodynamic relations such as the energy-conservation principle were derived theoretically for a case of finite depth, and we confirm that those relations are satisfied numerically with very good accuracy. Experiments were also carried out using water and isoparaffin oil as the two fluids and a Lewis-form body. Measured results for the added mass, the damping coefficient, and the amplitude of the generated waves are compared with the computed results, and a favorable agreement is found. 相似文献

A linearized two-dimensional diffraction problem in a two-layer fluid of finite depth was solved for a general floating body
and relevant wave-induced motions were studied. In a two-layer fluid, for a prescribed frequency, incident waves propagate
with two different wave modes. Thus the wave-exciting forces and resulting motions must be computed separately for each mode
of the incident wave. The boundary integral equation method developed by the authors in the Part-1 article was applied to
directly obtain the diffraction potential (pressure) on the body surface. With the computed results, an investigation was
carried out on the effects of the fluid density ratio and the interface position on the wave-exciting forces on the body and
the motions of the body, including the case in which the body intersects the interface. By a systematic derivation using Green's
theorem, all the possible reciprocity relations were derived theoretically in explicit forms for a system of finite depth;
these relations were confirmed to be satisfied numerically with very good accuracy. Experiments were also carried out using
water and isoparaffin oil as the two fluids and a Lewis-form body. Measured results for the sway- and heave-exciting forces

The behavior of time allocation to two types of discretionary activities is formulated as a doubly-censored Tobit model. The model is capable of incorporating cases where the entire amount of time available for discretionary activity is allocated to one type of activity and the other type of activity is not engaged at all. The model is applied to examine individuals' allocation of time to in-home and out-of-home discretionary activities on working days and non-working days, using a weekly time-use data set from the Netherlands. Workers' daily activity patterns vary significantly between working days and non-working days, while it can be expected that patterns of time allocation are correlated between working days and non-working days. A set of error components is introduced into the model to represent this correlation, adopting a mass point approach which requires no assumption about the distribution of the error components.
