The objective of this study is to examine the effect of road pricing on people’s tendency to adapt their current travel behavior. To this end, the relationship between changes in activity-travel behavior on the one hand and public acceptability and its most important determinants on the other are investigated by means of a stated adaptation experiment. Using a two-stage hierarchical model, it was found that behavioral changes themselves are not dependent on the perceived acceptability of road pricing itself, and that only a small amount of the variability in the behavioral changes were explained by socio-cognitive factors. The lesson for policy makers is that road pricing charges must surpass a minimum threshold in order to entice changes in activity-travel behavior and that the benefits of road pricing should be clearly communicated, taking into account the needs and abilities of different types of travelers. Secondly, earlier findings concerning the acceptability of push measures were validated, supporting transferability of results. In line with other studies, effectiveness, fairness and personal norm all had a significant direct impact on perceived acceptability. Finally, the relevance of using latent factors rather than aggregate indicators was underlined.  相似文献

Carbon cycling in the Weddell Sea was investigated during the ANT X/7 cruise with `FS Polarstern' December 1992–January 1993. Samples were taken on a cross section from Kapp Norvegia to Joinville Island, and on a section from the Larsen Ice Shelf to the northeast. The following quantities were measured: total carbon dioxide (TCO2), fluorescence from humic substances and total organic carbon. The distribution of TCO2 was strongly positively correlated to the time elapsed since the various water masses were last ventilated. In general, humic substance fluorescence was positively correlated with TCO2, with the exception of the productive part of the western Weddell Sea, where the correlation was negative in the surface mixed layer. The increased fluorescence at the surface is suggested to be a result of biological production. The distribution of total organic carbon showed less structure, since this quantity includes a particulate component, which is subject to dispersion processes different from those of the dissolved components TCO2 and humic substances. The mean total organic carbon concentration below the surface mixed layer was 50 μmol l−1. At some stations, a steep TOC maximum around 2000 m depth was observed. This was interpreted to result from mass sinking of phytoplankton blooms. Total organic carbon had a maximum in surface water, and at some stations also a second subsurface maximum. In the Warm Deep Water (WDW), TCO2 and fluorescence had their maximum values, while total organic carbon tended to be low. In low productivity surface water in the eastern part of the Kapp Norvegia–Joinville Island section, the lowest flourescence was found. Surface water is eventually formed from Warm Deep Water, which had the highest fluorescence values, and therefore it is concluded that humic substances were removed in situ from surface water. In the central area of the Weddell Sea, TCO2 and fluorescence showed the highest Warm Deep Water maxima, while total organic carbon was low. The Warm Deep Water in this area is part of the so-called Central Intermediate Water which circulates for a long time within the Weddell Gyre. Reduced total organic carbon, which coincides with the most pronounced Central Intermediate Water characteristics, and high TCO2 can thus both be accounted for by continued degradation of organic matter in this water mass. The associated fluorescence maximum implies that humic substances are also produced during mineralisation. Recently formed bottom water, by contrast, could be seen as patches of low TCO2, low fluorescence and high total organic carbon along the western slope of the Weddell Sea.  相似文献

In this article, a logic for vehicle dynamics control during partial braking while turning a corner is presented, which only requires knowledge of the instantaneous speed of the four wheels. For this reason, the proposed control algorithm can be adopted on all ABS equipped cars. A scheme of the simulation program for logic validation is described, which is constituted by a loop of software models of the principal vehicle subsystems which are singly illustrated. The proposed logic has been tested both in closed and open-loop maneuvers. The results are provided in the form of time histories of the principal analyzed quantities. The analysis of the results confirms the goodness of the proposed control strategy.  相似文献

Effect of mixing on microbial communities in the Rhone River plume   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The biological processes involved during mixing of a river plume with the marine underlying water were studied off the Rhone River outlet. Samples of suspended and dissolved matter were collected while tracking a drifting buoy. Three trajectories were performed, at 2-day intervals, under different hydrological and meteorological situations. A biological uptake was evidenced from ammonium (NH4) and phosphate (PO4) shortage, indicating an early “NH4-dependent” functioning occurring before the well-known “NO3-based” cycle. The different ratios between NH4, NO3 and PO4, as a function of salinity, were discussed to detail the preferential use in PO4 and NH4. Salinity zones with enhanced bacterial production, high chlorophyll a concentration, as well as DOC, NH4 and PO4 consumption were evidenced from 20 to 35 in salinity. It was shown that the successive abundance of bacteria and phytoplankton during transfer reflected the competition for PO4 of both communities. On the Rhone River plume, the role played by temperature, light conditions and suspended matter upon biological activity seems relatively minor compared to salinity distribution and its related parameter: nutrient availability. It can be concluded that biological uptake in the Rhone River plume was closely related to the dilution mechanism, controlled itself by the dynamics of the plume. In windless conditions and close to the river mouth, the density gradient between marine and river water induced limited exchanges between the nutrient-rich freshwater and the potential consumers in the underlying marine water. Consequently, little biological activity is observed close to the river mouth. Offshore, mixing is enhanced and a balance is reached between salinity tolerance and nutrient availability to form a favourable zone for marine phytoplankton development. This can be quite far from the river mouth in case of a widely spread plume, corresponding to high river discharge. Under windy and wavy conditions, the plume freshwater is early and rapidly mixed, so that the extension of the “enhanced production zone” is drastically reduced and even bacteria could not benefit from the fast mixing regime induced.  相似文献

As a newly industrialized country, Korea has shown remarkable economic progress in the last three decades. This phenomenal growth has rapidly increased demands for better quality of life. This includes, among others, increasing demand for high quality transportation system services. In this paper, the method of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is utilized to evaluate rural highway improvement projects in Korea. The appropriate rural highway improvement projects for widening and paving were selected and studied on the basis of some selection criteria. The results have shown that there are some significant differences in prioritizing projects using the traditional economic evaluation method as compared to those resulting from the use of AHP. As demonstrated, the AHP proves to be an effective tool in evaluating transportation system projects.  相似文献

In this article, identification of vertical dynamics of vehicles with controlled suspensions is considered. Identification is performed from experimental data measured on a four-poster bench test of a segment C car, equipped with a CDC-Skyhook dampers control system. The measurements are obtained from the onboard accelerometers needed by the control system. A nonlinear model in regression form is identified, having the road profile and damper control currents as inputs and chassis accelerations as outputs. The model is identified by means of a set membership structured identification method, which takes advantage of physical information on the structure of the system, decomposing the system into three subsystems: one represents the chassis and engine and the other two represent the overall behavior of front and rear suspensions, wheels and tires. This decomposition allows us to avoid the complexity accuracy problems derived from the high dimension of required regression space. Indeed, the overall high-dimensional identification problem is reduced to the identification of lower dimensional subsystems and to the estimation of their interactions. An iterative scheme is used for solving the decomposed identification problem. As the chassis pitch is small for the usual road profiles, the chassis-engine block is considered linear and standard linear methods are used for its identification. The other two subsystems are the main sources of nonlinearities in the system, mainly due to the significant nonlinearities of controlled dampers and of tires. Owing to the complexity/accuracy problems of a physical modeling of these subsystems, an input-output approach is taken. In particular, a nonlinear set membership method that does not require the search of the functional form of involved nonlinearities is used for the identification of these subsystems. The iterative algorithm converged in two iterations to a model providing a quite satisfactory simulation accuracy for all the considered road profiles and CDC-Skyhook settings.  相似文献
