Established rules-of-thumb and industry guidelines for estimating the supply of parking at airports are based on uncertain quantities such as design year enplanements and number of airport employees, and are independent of cost. In the presence of continued uncertainty and increasing competition for limited space in and around airports, it is important that facilities are sized in relation to cost of providing and using them. A probabilistic model based on the classical “newsboy” problem is proposed to determine the optimal supply of parking in relation to expected total cost while treating demand as a random quantity. Empirical data are used to demonstrate the application of the proposed model for decision making. In addition to construction and maintenance costs, and user costs, decisions are shown to be sensitive to the level of uncertainty of design year enplanements. 相似文献

In recent years, shipping industry has encountered severe competition, technological change, and environmental and safety concerns. In order to remain competitive, firms need to review and redesign shipboard work. A crucial aspect of these efforts is shipboard controls that define the extent of autonomy and accountability of officers and crew. This study examines four types of controls on board ships. These are monitoring and autonomy, outcome accountability, formalization and professionalization. The study applied trancsaction cost theory to test eight hypotheses on board 16 ships in two companies. The results largely confirm theoretical predictions. Task visibility, complexity and uncertainty show strong relationships to the four types of controls. However, there are also significant gaps in that accountability for outcomes is low, and situation with regard to crew training and autonomy can be improved. Our research is motivated by a recent article in Tradewinds, according to which owners have become reluctant in scrapping their vessels by turning them into double hull from single hull. [Objectives ] Aiming at the accurate posture stabilization problem of an under-actuated unmanned surface vehicle (USV) in GPS-denied environments, a monocular visual servo stabilization control scheme is proposed based on homography.[Methods]By virtue of the homography decomposition technique, posture errors with an unknown scale factor are directly reconstructed from current and desired images, which thoroughly removes the calibration of extrinsic camera parameters and priori information on visual targets; with respect to the under-actuation constraint, a periodic function to persistently excite the yaw angle is incorporated into the continuous time-variant output feedback controller, allowing the USV to be stabilized in the absence of image depth, movement velocities and model parameters.[Results]Under the framework of the Lyapunov theory, the closed-loop visual servo system of the USV is rigorously proven to be asymptotically stable by Barbalat lemma.[Conclusions]By installing an onboard monocular camera, USV posture errors can be precisely stabilized with the aid of the proposed visual servo strategy, providing significant technique support for practical applications including docking, berthing, dynamic positioning, etc. © 2022 Journal of Clinical Hepatology. This study presents the results of a trial assessment based on a combination of sampling techniques at a dredged material disposal site located off the North East coast of the UK, over 2001 to 2004. The site was surveyed with a high-resolution sidescan sonar system producing a mosaic with 100% coverage of the survey area. Benthic communities and sediments were ground-truthed using a Hamon grab with a video camera. Additionally, the area was also sampled in 2003 with a Sediment Profile Imaging (SPI) camera, which complemented other techniques by providing in situ information on sediment quality, and biogenic activities. An assessment is made of the benefits of combining the results from conventional methods, principally using grab samples, with those from acoustic techniques and optical imaging devices to determine seafloor and macrobenthic conditions. This information has the potential to contribute to the enhancement of routine monitoring programmes within UK waters. 相似文献
