Transportation improvement site selection exemplifies transportation decision making that is collaborative in nature and geographically based. Such decision-making is part of a broad societal trend toward shared and participatory discussions about public investment. Perspectives from three different transportation decision contexts in the Puget Sound Region of Washington State, a regional council, a county government and a public–private Coalition group, are combined with a literature review to develop a decision task model that summarizes the need for information technology support during transportation improvement site selection. The task model guides the development of a decision support system requirement specification that outlines integrated information capabilities provided by geographic information system (GIS) and group support system (GSS) technologies. Together, GIS and GSS capabilities contribute to evolving group-based GIS. The kinds of capabilities a group-based GIS could offer in addressing the needs are identified. A report on the use of a prototype, group-based GIS called Spatial Group Choice highlights the possibilities in an inter-organizational coalition decision context. The conclusions discuss needs for future technology developments and social–behavioral science studies on these developments. 相似文献

This paper deals with a study to theoretically formulate an effective method of improving vehicle performance, particularly, its characteristics in the nonlinear region, and to verify the feasibility of the proposed method by calculations and examinations. In order to analyze vehicle characteristics in the nonlinear region, a new method of analysis was developed for determining yaw moment and side force of the vehicle with a parameter of the side slip angle at the center of gravity when its center of gravity point was fixed. The study with this new method found that direct yaw moment control by proper distribution of traction and braking forces on the right and left tires could provide a very effective means of stabilizing vehicle characteristics, specifically for acceleration and deceleration, and enlarging the limit of vehicle maneuverability. 相似文献

Bond graph modeling techniques are used to represent the normal mode dynamic behavior of uniform Bernoulli-Euler beams. The independent beam models are then coupled together to form a distributed system structure of arbitrary complexity. The resulting overall system bond graph is shown to yield the governing state equations in a straightforward manner. Then, through proper ordering of the equations, the normal modes and frequencies of the coupled system are easily obtained

The lateral dynamics of an uncontrolled motorcycle, running on a straight, level road surface, is investigated in this paper. The structural compliances in the front and the rear frames of the motorcycle are taken into account by introducing additional degrees of freedom in the analysis. The kinematics of the tires is represented by linear differential equations which are based on the taut-string model of pneumatic tires. The linear differential equations of motion are solved to yield the eigensolutions of the system. Numerical results, obtained for parameters corresponding to a Honda CB750 motorcycle, are presented and discussed. 相似文献

Household activity scheduling is widely regarded as the underlying mechanism through which people respond to emerging travel
demand management policies. Despite this, very little fundamental research has been conducted into the underlying scheduling
process to improve our understanding and ability forecast travel. The experimental survey approach presented in this paper
attempts to fill this gap. At the core of the survey is a Computerized Household Activity Scheduling (CHASE) software program.
The program is unique in that it runs for a week long period during which time all adult household members login daily to
record their scheduling decisions as they occur over time. An up-front interview is used to define a household's activity
agenda and mode availability. A sample of 41 households (66 adults and 14 children) was used to assess the performance of
the survey. Analysis focuses on times to completion, daily scheduling steps, activity-travel patterns, and scheduling time
horizons. Overall, the results show that the computer-based survey design was successful in gathering an array of information
on the underlying process, while minimizing the burden on respondents. The survey was also capable of tracing traditionally
observed activity-travel outcomes over a multi-day period with minimal fatigue effects. The paper concludes with a detailed
discussion on future survey design, including issues of instrument bias, use of the Internet, and improved tracing of spatial
behaviour. Future use of the survey methodology to enhance activity-travel diary surveys and stated responses experiments
is also discussed.

The mechanical properties of tires and trucks are contrasted with comparable properties of the motor car to explain why the motor truck and the tractor-trailer can exhibit fixed-control instability at moderate levels of lateral acceleration. The (1) rearward bias in the distribution of roll stiffness, (2) large ratio of e.g. height to track, and (3) low torsional stiffness of the parallel-rail frame (as typically employed in heavy commercial vehicles) are found to be the major factors implicated in this phenomenon. Experimental and analytical evidence is provided to show how tire inflation pressure and mixes of (a) tire-carcass construction and (b) tread design also influence stability at moderate levels of lateral acceleration. Summary A stroke dependent damper is designed for the front axle suspension of a truck. The damper supplies extra damping for inward deflections rising above 4 cm. In this way the damper should reduce extreme suspension deflections without deteriorating the comfort of the truck. But the question is which stroke dependent damping curve yields the best compromise between suspension deflection working space and comfort. Therefore an optimization problem is defined to minimize the maximum inward suspension deflection subject to constraints on the chassis acceleration for three typical road undulations. The optimization problem is solved using sequential linear programming (SLP) and multibody dynamics simulation software. Several optimization runs have been carried out for a small two degree of freedom vehicle model and a large full-scale model of the truck semi-trailer combination. The results show that the stroke dependent damping can reduce large deflections at incidental road disturbances, but that the optimum stroke dependent damping curve is related to the acceleration bound. By means of vehicle model simulation and numerical optimization we have been able to quantify this trade-off between suspension deflection working space and truck comfort. 相似文献
