This study adopts a dwelling unit level of analysis and considers a probabilistic choice set generation approach for residential choice modeling. In doing so, we accommodate the fact that housing choices involve both characteristics of the dwelling unit and its location, while also mimicking the search process that underlies housing decisions. In particular, we model a complete range of dwelling unit choices that include tenure type (rent or own), housing type (single family detached, single family attached, or apartment complex), number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, number of storeys (one or multiple), square footage of the house, lot size, housing costs, density of residential neighborhood, and commute distance. Bhat’s (2015) generalized heterogeneous data model (GHDM) system is used to accommodate the different types of dependent outcomes associated with housing choices, while capturing jointness caused by unobserved factors. The proposed analytic framework is applied to study housing choices using data derived from the 2009 American Housing Survey (AHS), sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The results confirm the jointness in housing choices, and indicate the superiority of a choice set formation model relative to a model that assumes the availability of all dwelling unit alternatives in the choice set. 相似文献

The impact of global warming and climate change is the most critical challenge of the 21st century. The greenhouse effect caused by technological development and industrial pollution has accelerated the speed of global warming. To effectively reduce global warming and encourage sustainable enterprise development, a comparative analysis approach is used to examine various domestic automotive products which utilize the up-to-date innovative technology. Their contributions to fuel consumption and emissions of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide (CO2), are then investigated. This study focuses on technical innovation in a conventional engine and output power. The results indicate that innovative engines (such as the Ford turbo petrol/diesel engine, the EcoBoost/TDCi) have improved energy consumption and CO2 emissions. In addition, an improvement in output power (such as Toyota hybrid vehicles) has also improved energy consumption and CO2 emissions. 相似文献

In this paper an operation mode which is based on the stop-skipping approach is studied in urban railway lines under uncertainty. In this mode, each train follows a specific stop schedule. Trains are allowed to skip any intermediate stations to increase the commercial speed and to save energy consumption. As the commercial speed increases, the number of required trains in operation reduces and results eliminating unnecessary costs. To that end, a new mathematical model is proposed to reach the optimum stop schedule patterns. In the planning step, based on the traffic studies, the headway distributions are computed for different weekdays, and holidays. However, in practice, because of many unexpected events, the traffic may alter from what is planned. Therefore, in this condition, a robust plan is required that is optimized and immunized from uncertainty. In this paper, a new robust mathematical model, as well as two heuristic algorithms including (1) a decomposition-based algorithm and (2) a Simulated Annealing (SA) based algorithm is proposed. In this paper, the concept ‘green approaches’ already used in aviation is applied to cargo transportation at sea. Instead of anchoring outside a port waiting for berth, ships can adjust their speed to arrive just in time for berthing. With improved incentives for reducing speed and shared information about berthing times, green approaches instead of anchoring can be a way to reduce fuel consumption and emissions without increasing the transit times of goods. The present study estimates the benefits to society as a whole for the EU ports in the Baltic Sea with Automatic Identification System data applying a new method using data collected in real time. Data consists of all anchored ships awaiting berth on 40 different occasions in 2015 and are subsequently extrapolated to a year. Fuel consumption by the individual ships, emissions and values are calculated from the detailed data with established models and estimates of unit values. The potential benefits are estimated at 27 million euros per year in the scenario where the near 15,000 anchorings by ships annually awaiting berth may instead start a green approach 12 h prior to arrival and may reduce speed by 25%, using the middle unit values for fuel and emissions. The methodology used in the paper can be applied to estimate the benefits of green approaches in other areas with anchored vessels. 相似文献
