Increased productivity efforts yield few rewards in the knowledge economy

Population aging is reducing access to knowledge workers even as they are becoming more important to economic growth. Thus far, corporations and governments alike have made the intuitive yet untested assumption that working the existing workforce harder and longer can alleviate the economic fallout. This is based on the ‘success’ similar efforts have previously seen in production industries characterized by physical inputs. Our study provides evidence that these successes may not carry over to industries, such as transportation that are reliant on intellectual skill. It is shown that meeting productivity goals by increasing the job demands of knowledge workers, specifically air traffic controllers, compromises the provision of new kinds of value added. Furthermore, it is demonstrated for the first time that increasing job duration exacerbates the effects of job demand on human performance. Coping with staffing shortages by asking that knowledge workers simply ‘do more’ may impede rather than stimulate economic growth.     

Calibrating trust through knowledge: Introducing the concept of informed safety for automation in vehicles

There has been an increasing focus on the development of automation in vehicles due its many potential benefits like safety, improved traffic efficiency, reduced emissions etc. One of the key factors influencing public acceptance of automated vehicle technologies is their level of trust. Development of trust is a dynamic process and needs to be calibrated to the correct levels for safe deployment to ensure appropriate use of such systems. One of the factors influencing trust is the knowledge provided to the driver about the system’s true capabilities and limitations. After a 56 participants driving simulator study, the authors found that with the introduction of knowledge about the true capabilities and limitations of the automated system, trust in the automated system increased as compared to when no knowledge was provided about the system. Participants experienced two different types of automated systems: low capability automated system and high capability automated system. Interestingly, with the introduction of knowledge, the average trust levels for both low and high capability automated systems were similar. Based on the experimental results, the authors introduce the concept of informed safety, i.e., informing the drivers about the safety limits of the automated system to enable them to calibrate their trust in the system to an appropriate level.

基于数据融合的单目标船避碰评估系统

建立了一个用于对单目标船避碰操作进行评估的系统。介绍了基于数据融合技术的系统三级处理模型,并重点讨论了基于数据关联的船舶航迹提取,基于坐标转换和几何模型的船舶运动参数计算,基于多测量周期数据融合的船舶操纵识别,和基于知识的碰撞危险、避碰阶段及会遇态势的判定等模块。同时给出了系统的工作流程图,最后通过实例说明系统运行的有效性。

大学生对艾滋病认知行为的调查分析

为了解大学生对艾滋病的相关知识、行为和态度,为今后开展健康教育提供依据,参考国内外有关文献自行设计调查问卷,无记名答卷,对2003-2005级750名在校大学生进行了调查。结果说明在大学生中开展有关艾滋病的健康教育是有必要的。     

基于先验知识的高速公路逃费车辆跟踪算法研究

由于目前部分货车在采用记重收费的高速公路收费站前无序倒车,对高速公路收费站秩序造成较大影响,如何对此类现象进行采证,从而便于处罚和管理,成为一个突出问题.在分析车辆先验知识的基础上,对车辆模型进行了参数化提取,设计了一种基于先验知识的车辆跟踪算法,该算法通过一定的先验知识对车辆目标进行建模,然后在实时的图像序列中通过模型匹配的方法来对车辆进行跟踪,并实时对模型进行连续不断的更新去实现对车辆的匹配跟踪.本文也给出了算法的实现过程,而且对算法进行了实际验证.通过实际试验结果表明,该算法很好的解决了环境中的干扰问题,对收费站前无序行驶车辆的取证提供了良好的技术解决方案,而且本算法对于车辆的遮挡问题也有一定的适应性.     

汽车企业知识管理中知识与业务的集成研究

主要从汽车企业知识管理的集成模型、知识密集型业务的处理模型、业务过程与知识集成等方面对知识与业务的集成进行讨论与研究。并阐述了某汽车零部件制造企业基于知识集成的过程管理系统。
