PIV velocity field measurements of flow around a KRISO 3600TEU container ship model

The main purpose of this investigation was to demonstrate a useful application of the particle image velocimetry (PIV) method to analyze the complex flow characteristics around a ship. For a sample illustration, the KRISO 3600TEU container ship model was chosen. The flow structure in the stern and near-wake region of the model has been investigated experimentally in a circulating water channel. Instantaneous velocity fields measured by the PIV velocity field measurement technique have been ensemble-averaged to give details of flow structures such as the spatial distributions of the local mean velocity, vorticity, and turbulent kinetic energy. The free-stream velocity was fixed at U _o = 0.6m/s, and the corresponding Reynolds number based on the length between perpendiculars was about 9.0 × 10⁵. The container ship model shows a complicated three-dimensional flow structure in the stern and near-wake regions. The PIV results clearly revealed the formation of large-scale bilge vortices in the stern region and their effect on the flow in the near-wake. The results shown here provide valuable information for hull form design and the validation of viscous ship flow codes and of turbulence models.

在沥青混凝土路面施工中,接缝有纵向接缝和横向接缝(工作缝)两种。如果接缝处的平整度不好,会产生下洼或凸起。或因接缝处压实度不够和结合强度不足而产生裂纹,甚至松散。接缝处施工质量不理想的现象时常见到。在用宽幅摊铺机全幅摊铺面层的情况下,虽避免了纵向接缝,但横向接缝是不可避免的,至少每天会有一条工作缝。就此,对沥青混凝土路面施工中的接缝处理技术进行讨论。

Effect of obstacles on roads with different waviness values on the vehicle response

The effect of the increasing number of cosine-form obstacles, which are superposed on a standard homogeneous longitudinal road profile, is studied when the waviness of the basic road profile changes in the range from 1.5 to 3.5. First, the effect of the composed profile on the power spectral density (PSD) is analysed. It appears that the primary PSD in the form of a straight-line in the log-log plot breaks into two straight-line partial segments with quite different waviness values in the long and short wavelength bands. This seems to be a suitable model of a highly deteriorated road. Next, the effect on the response of two typical vehicles, viz. a personal car and a three-axle truck, is studied, and rather different results were obtained. In a summary valuation, it appears that the presence of additional obstacles causes independence of some of the vehicle response quantities of the primary waviness.
