During the lifting of submerged marine modules, the highest dynamic loads occur in the splash zone. These forces are highly dynamic and cannot easily be estimated with sufficient accuracy using simple calculations or high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics because of their irregular and complex geometries. We conducted an experimental study in a wave tank to investigate the dynamics of a large subsea module in the splash zone subject to irregular waves. The experiments were conducted using a 1:8 scale model of a subsea module, similar to that designed by Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd., for the subsea pipeline from the Wenchang gas fields to the Yacheng pipeline. The model was examined at five different positions relative to the free surface, from completely above the surface to fully submerged. The resulting data are analyzed in the time and frequency domains. Spectral analysis and a dynamic effect parameter are used to analyze the dynamic loads on the subsea module. Several time-domain numerical analyses are performed with different peak periods, and the tension of the sub-slings is obtained. The experimental results for the relative forces and motions of the subsea module are presented, providing a reference for the design of other similar modules and their installation and validation data for computational modeling. 相似文献

This paper presents an effective scheme for calculating the wave-induced hydroelastic response of a pontoon-type very large
floating structure (VLFS) when it is near a breakwater. The basic numerical calculation method is the one previously developed
by the same author for a VLFS in the open sea (no breakwater), which is expanded to include the effect of the hydrodynamic
mutual interaction between the breakwater and the floating structure. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method are
validated through comparisons with other numerical results and with existing experimental results. After that confirmation,
various numerical calculations were conducted, paying special attention to the resonance phenomena which will occur depending
on the relation between the wavelength and the clearance between the breakwater and the floating structure. The irregular
frequency phenomenon which appears in the calculation of the fluid dynamic problem is discussed in the appendices, including
a method for its elimination.

George Town, Penang, is the oldest British colonial city in South East Asia. The colonial settlement layout in the inner city
area is still intact today. The establishment of George Town as a trading centre had attracted immigrants from all over the
world, especially from Asia (Chinese, Indians and Arabs). Recently, George Town has been enlisted under the UNESCO World Heritage
Lists as an outstanding example of traditional multi-cultural settlement. The uniqueness of this inner city is that the formation
of its urban pattern is the result of ‘divide and rule’ concept adopted by the British authority. Under the ‘divide and rule’
concept, these immigrants were located to settlement areas based on their ethnic background under one leader known as ‘kapitan’ (captain). The study finds that transport access in this inner city was influenced by the ‘divide and rule’ concept. Unlike
formation of well-planned gridiron pattern in other British colonial cities such as in North America, Canada and Australia,
the formation of the urban pattern in George Town has an irregular gridiron pattern. This type of urban pattern is typical
under ‘divide and rule’ concept and this had indirectly influenced the setting and planning of the present street access and
transport networks.

This paper presents parametric studies of nonlinear wave forces on large-scale submerged tunnel element. A transportation project of submerged tunnel element under irregular wave conditions is taken as the research background. Three-dimensional diffraction potential and radiation potential associating with the motion of the floating body are utilized, and an efficient three dimensional Green function is implemented to solve the radiation-diffraction problem. A computational method for calculating the nonlinear wave forces of the submerged tunnel element is developed. The present method is validated by the existed methods and experimental data, and good agreements are observed for all test models. The effects of wave parameters and structural parameters on the second-order nonlinear wave forces are studied. Results from the present study can provide valuable recommendations for the weather window and downtime frequencies, the configuration of tugboats, the arrangement of sea-route, and the size and type of the design and construction of the submerged tunnel element. 相似文献
