The primary purpose of this study was to better understand US travelers’ route guidance information preferences for Advanced Traveler Information Systems (AT1S) for tourist automobile trips in unfamiliar areas. A secondary purpose was to better understand, more generally, information needs and preferences of tourists in order to develop guidelines for designing ATIS that is specific for driving tourists. Data on information needs and preferences were collected through a mail-back questionnaire survey of US adult residents. Among other topics, the questionnaire asked respondents about their preferences for various types of route guidance information. These data are reported here. Survey respondents gave positive ratings to all nine types of route guidance information investigated in the study, including selecting best route to destination, travel routes shown on map, road conditions, traffic congestion on route, presence of construction, weather conditions, time or distance on route, options/recommendations for alternate routes, and identification of scenic byways. Differences in preferences by sex, age, education, and income are discussed and guidelines for ATIS development, specific to route guidance, are presented. 相似文献

Abstract Driver information systems help drivers to navigate efficiently through a road network and avoid congestion. However, while a driver could save time by complying with a route switch recommendation, they might experience an increase in accident risk or cause other drivers to experience an increased risk. If this is the case, it may be worth considering the accident risk of different routes as part of the route recommendation process. The integration of accident predictive models within a traffic network model, designed to simulate route guidance, enabled these issues to be investigated Dynamic route guidance, based on a minimum journey time criterion, is estimated in a congested, urban network to result in accident reductions of a similar proportion to distance reductions, but significantly less than journey time reductions. The effect of considering accident risk in route recommendations was investigated. Deterring drivers from minor roads or from high risk junction crossings failed to produce significant accident reductions when compared to route recommendations based on travel time alone. 相似文献

This study focuses on the possibility that providing travelers with information on travel time distribution, along with the existing travel time information, might affect their decision making and enhance traffic control. As an initial step to confirm the effectiveness of travel time distribution information, we use a laboratory experiment to obtain panel data of route choices when information is provided. The rationality of the behavior of the respondents and the characteristics of the route choice are first analyzed by aggregation analysis and then statistically examined by specifying a mixed logit route choice model. As a result, it is revealed that both travel time information and maximum travel time information significantly affect route choice behavior when a penalty is imposed for late arrival. 相似文献

Bus stops are integral elements of a transit system and as such, their efficient inspection and maintenance is required, for proper and attractive transit operations. Nevertheless, spatial dispersion and the extensive number of bus stops, even for mid-size transit systems, complicates scheduling of inspection and maintenance tasks. In this context, the problem of scheduling transit stop inspection and maintenance activities (TSIMP) by a two-stage optimization approach, is formulated and discussed. In particular, the first stage involves districting of the bus stop locations into areas of responsibility for different inspection and maintenance crews (IMCs), while in the second stage, determination of the sequence of bus stops to be visited by an IMC is modelled as a vehicle routing problem. Given the complexity of proposed optimization models, advanced versions of different metaheuristic algorithms (Harmony Search and Ant Colony Optimization) are exploited and assessed as possible options for solving these models. Furthermore, two variants of ACO are implemented herein; one implemented into a CPU parallel computing environment along with an accelerated one by means of general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) computing. The model and algorithms are applied to the Athens (Greece) bus system, whose extensive number of transit stops (over 7500) offers a real-world test bed for assessing the potential of the proposed modelling approach and solution algorithms. As it was shown for the test example examined, both algorithms managed to achieve optimized solutions for the problem at hand while there were fund robust with respect to their algorithmic parameters.
