The paper aims at investigating the trends of the concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and phosphorous in the Lagoon of Venice, Italy, in the last 35 years. The trend analysis of ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and reactive phosphorus (RP) yielded rather different results. The decrease in ammonia nitrogen concentration, in particular, in the basin influenced by severe industrial discharges, is accurately described by a negative exponential model. The nitrate concentration did not show significant interannual trends, while wide seasonal variations have been detected. Reactive phosphorus concentration increased until the end of the 1970s at the stations close to the industrial area as well as in those influenced by river discharges and by sewages of the city of Venice. The sudden decrease that followed was most likely related with environmental policies, namely the improvement of wastewater purification treatments and the regulation of phosphorus use in detergents.  相似文献

For a 3-D eutrophication-diffusion macromodel of the central part of the Venice Lagoon, air-water heat fluxes are computed interpolating, through Fourier series expansion, meteoclimatic variables averaged over a thirty years survey. Also reproduced with the same interpolation methods, is the daily fluctuation of incident light as well as the annual variation of the photoperiod. With an interative procedure temperature values, to be assigned at each grid's point and corresponding to each hour of a reference year, are computed also accounting for the thermal inertia of water columns of varying depths. By statistical examination of temperature vertical profiles, depth varying diffusivities are also estimated, which enables, without assumption of an instantaneous mixing, the reproduction of heat diffusion from the surface to the bottom water cells.Procedures, preliminary refined and verified for a one-dimensional vertical system input, are next implemented on a three-dimensional submodel of reduced size provided of “open boundaries”: this last submodel, under a continuous input of energy and of matter is seen to attain a steady states as well as to be capable of simulating regime conditions. A further validation is performed, on a submodel of 43 × 47 × 20 cells, encompassing a limited portion of the macromodel and presenting the actual lagoon bathymetry.Macromodel's seasonalisation so achieved, enables for a more correct simulation of the periodical behaviour of light and of temperature, forcing functions governing the eutrophication phenomena.  相似文献

The development, calibration and validation of a two-dimensional finite element model for the Venice Lagoon is described. The model uses a staggered grid for the spatial integration of the water levels and velocities. A semi-implicit numerical time stepping scheme is implemented, which guarantees unconditional stability for the gravity wave propagation. Because of the shallow depths in the lagoon, the model deals also with areas where flooding and drying occur.A first calibration of the model has been performed against harmonic constants of 12 tide gauges located in the lagoon. After this calibration, model output shows a good agreement with a set of water level data referring to a period of calm winds and to another data set of water level data measured in 38 stations during a period of strong winds.Meteorological data and river discharges are used to set up a 1-year long simulation that models the salinity and temperature fields. The temperature time evolution is well simulated. Comparison of model output to salinity data is not straightforward, since input data for the main rivers that discharge freshwater into the lagoon is not available for the year of reference. However, yearly averages of observed values of salinity are in a reasonable agreement with results of a climatological simulation. The presented model shows good propagation of the tidal wave and stability characteristics. It is the first step for a comprehensive model of the Venice Lagoon that deals not only with hydrodynamic variables, but also with sediment transport and ecological processes.  相似文献
