This article presents a mixed method of analyzing shell elements and solid elements using the overlaying mesh method. In
the structural design of a ship's hull, the shell elements are used for the global model. However, the solid elements are
necessary to analyze the stress concentration zones or the vicinity of a crack. In such cases, the models are analyzed using
zooming analysis, in which the results of a global model analysis are transferred to a local model analysis by imposing boundary
conditions. This method is more advantageous than zooming analysis in terms of the accuracy of the solution and the modeling
flexibility. Some examples of a plate model with a cracked surface or with a projection are shown in order to demonstrate
the effectiveness of the method.

Jakobsson et al. (2000) found that in Sweden public acceptance of road pricing decreases if it is perceived to be unfair and to infringe on freedom. The present study reports a survey investigating whether the same effects are found in the Asian countries of Japan and Taiwan. The results indicate that fairness plays the same role. However, income had a direct effect on acceptance in Taiwan but not in Japan or Sweden. 相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of economic disincentives on private car use. Eighty two-adult households who were owners of at least one car were randomly assigned to three experimental groups and one control group. Both experimental and control groups logged their car trips during one week before, one week during, and one week after treatment. The treatment consisted of charging two of the experimental groups approximately 100% of normal cost per kilometer of driving during 2 weeks, and charging the third experimental group this amount per kilometer of driving during 4 weeks. With the purpose of investigating whether deliberate planning increases the effect of economic disincentives, the households in one of the former and in the latter group were asked to fill out a prospective car log for the following week. The control group was not charged or requested to fill out a prospective car log but was in other respects treated in the same way. Analyses of the car logs and odometer readings during and at the end of treatment showed a weak reduction of car use due to the economic disincentives that however were almost completely dependent on planning. 相似文献

Dynamic collapse behavior of a ship’s hull girder in waves is investigated; post-ultimate strength behavior is the focus.
Firstly, a simulation method is proposed. Assuming that a plastic hinge is formed during the collapse of the hull girder,
the whole ship is modeled as two rigid bodies connected amidship via a nonlinear rotational spring. The post-ultimate strength
behavior, such as the reduction of load carrying capacity due to buckling and yielding, is reflected in the model. Hydrodynamic
loads are evaluated by using nonlinear strip theory to account for the effect of large plastic deformations on the loads.
A scaled model for validation of the simulation is designed and fabricated. Then a series of tank tests is conducted using
the scaled model to validate the simulation results. Post-ultimate strength behavior characteristics in waves are clarified
by using the numerical and tank test results. It is shown that the hull girder collapses rapidly after reaching ultimate strength,
and then the plastic deformation grows until unloading starts at the collapsed section. Finally, several parametric dependencies
of the extent of the collapse behavior are discussed based on a series of the simulations. 相似文献

A structural safety assessment of a pontoon-type very large floating structure (VLFS) surrounded by a gravity-type breakwater
was carried out for extreme wave conditions by considering the damage to the breakwater. Bending and shear collapses are considered
to be a failure mode of the floating structure, while overturning damages the breakwater. The probability of the breakwater
overturning, and the transmitted wave height before and after damage to the breakwater, are evaluated using design formulae
for port and harbor facilities in Japan. The ultimate bending and shear strengths of the floating structure are calculated
by the idealized structural unit method (ISUM) and FEM, respectively. The calculated failure probability for the floating
structure is compared with the specified target safety level. It was found that the floating structure under consideration
is most likely to fail by bending in transverse waves, and that the corresponding failure probability satisfies the target
level.

Previous research has shown that fairness, infringement on freedom, and perceived effectiveness are determinants of transport pricing acceptability. In the present study we investigate determinants of acceptability of environmental (carbon) taxation for which trust in government and environmental concern are additional determinants. Carbon taxation is an extension of fuel taxes and may thus be viewed as transport pricing. Our main focus is on the role played by personality traits. Structural equation modeling reveals that acceptability is related to the personality traits extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Extraverted individuals have higher levels of trust in government which leads to higher acceptability. Also correlations between agreeableness and conscientiousness as well as environmental problem awareness and personal norm are observed. We discuss strategies for effective marketing of transportation policies considering how acceptability is related to personality traits. 相似文献

This study focuses on the user-interface of the route guidance system with an electronic map display. The ultimate goal of
the study is to aid in designing electronic map displays that can deliver information to the user most efficiently and expeditiously
with minimum confusion. To evaluate the efficiency and understandability of a map display, laboratory experiments were designed
and conducted in this study. In the experiments the subjects were presented with electronic map displays of different attributes
and performed a set of tasks. Their understanding of the information contents was measured based on the outcomes of the tasks,
and subjective ratings of the ease of using the maps were obtained. Using the experimental data obtained, a structural equations
model system is developed to explain the understandability of a map display in terms of the subject’s attributes and the characteristics
of the map display. The experimental procedure and the modeling results are presented in this paper. 相似文献
