The purpose of this paper is to verify the justification provided for a centralized national road policyin Indonesia, namely, that trips on national roads are typically inter-urban, by measuring the spatialdimensions of automobile and motorcycle trips on national roads in Indonesia. The study finds thatmotorcycle trips are characteristically local; by contrast, automobile trips extend beyond city boundaries, although to a limited extent. The results suggest the decentralization of transportation policies for thedevelopment and maintenance of national roads by granting autonomy to local governments when nofiscal externality exists. The results also indicate that road capacity, gasoline prices, income, populationand worker density, city size, and the number of public buses are strong predictors of vehicle kilometerstraveled. 相似文献

In this paper, hydrodynamic analysis of vertical axis tidal turbine (both fixed pitch & variable pitch) is numerically analyzed. Two-dimensional numerical modeling & simulation of the unsteady flow through the blades of the turbine is performed using ANSYS CFX, hereafter CFX, which is based on a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) model. A transient simulation is done for fixed pitch and variable pitch vertical axis tidal turbine using a Shear Stress Transport turbulence (SST) scheme. Main hydrodynamic parameters like torque T, combined moment C M , coefficients of performance C P and coefficient of torque C T , etc. are investigated. The modeling and meshing of turbine rotor is performed in ICEM-CFD. Moreover, the difference in meshing schemes between fixed pitch and variable pitch is also mentioned. Mesh motion option is employed for variable pitch turbine. This article is one part of the ongoing research on turbine design and developments. The numerical simulation results are validated with well reputed analytical results performed by Edinburgh Design Ltd. The article concludes with a parametric study of turbine performance, comparison between fixed and variable pitch operation for a four-bladed turbine. It is found that for variable pitch we get maximum C P and peak power at smaller revolution per minute N and tip sped ratio λ. 相似文献

This study aims to determine spinal injury patterns and identify crash factors commonly associated with serious spinal injury as a result of motorcycle crashes. Data was retrospectively collected from motorcyclists sustaining spinal injuries from road crashes treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Malaysia, over the 5-year period from 2005 to 2009. Each patient's injuries were analyzed by reviewing his or her medical records for radiographic imaging and computed tomography scans.A total of 151 patients were included in this study, of which, males accounted for over 87%. The first lower lumbar (L1) was the most commonly injured vertebral level, followed by the adjacent thoracic vertebra (T12). Fracture to the vertebral body without dislocation was found to be the most frequently observed spinal injury pattern. Injury severities for a majority of patients (65%) were measured at Maximum Abbreviated Injury Scale (MAIS) of 2. Serious spinal injury was associated with thorax or upper-extremity injury.Prevalence of lumbar spinal injury in the study reflects a predominantly low-speed crash among the motorcyclist in the region. Motorcyclists are at greater odd to sustain severe spinal injury when directly striking an object compare to striking the ground during the crash event. 相似文献
